BEER THREAD!

I unfortunately have been imbibing hardly at all since last fall, but with the end of the academic year upon us there are several send-offs on the schedule for the coming weeks (two for the graduating seniors and one for retiring faculty).

As an apparent pisshead up T-Dot way was fond of saying in the good ole days...

As we head into spring and summer, the Japanese beer companies will be releasing a whole new slew of seasonal brands. I used to stop at a nearby konbini like Lawsons, FamiMart or 7-11 on the way home and pick up a small can or two to try with dinner.

I've still got a can of Kirin Aki Aji "Autumn Flavor" in the fridge from last year. I love the can designs.

I haven't had a good drink since Christmas. I need some liquor soon Anyone else drink Newcastle Brown Ale? It's one of my favorite beers.



I also really like McEwans Scotch Ale. The stuff is great! And Grolsch is good stuff as well. I love imported beer.

McEwans kicks ass; I'm quite fond of that as a good example of a Scotch ale.

I recently finished up some batches of homebrew I've been working on. I did a five gallon keg of cream stout, a five gallon bottled batch of an IPA and a five gallon bottled batch of an amber lager I made that came out surprisingly awesome (suprisingly in that it was a very simple recipe). I'll post some pint pics later

Considering it was at Ft. Jackson, I'm guessing it wasn't combat arms and there were women present.

Beer is piss water: same color, probably same taste, only a bit more bitter(considering the composition of urine you practically know how it'll taste...even by the smell I'd say).

I prefer "sweet" white wines something along the taste of champaign(if it's not considered a wine then remember I said "taste") and sweet liquers.
I hate sour wines, just drink viniger, cheaper.

Now, while I can appriciate some beer from time to time(sometimes I have a craving for it, among other foods and drinks), I generally don't like it.

I usually drink maybe a bottle of beer every month or two, but if I have some sweet wine or liquer I usually can't resist taking a "sip here, sip there" until it's empty all too soon.

I try to avoid alcohol entirely, and I never drink more than enough to make me a bit less "sharp" or sleepy, because I've seen how people behave when they do. I hate drunk people.

I could give a shit what people think of me when I'm drunk. Now mind you, I can hold liquor better than any of you pansies. But 99% of the time, I'm sitting in my buddy's house or my house when I drink. When I'm in a bar, who cares what someone thinks of me? Were in a goddam bar! As long as I'm not killing them with my car, they have nothing to complain about.

Now Omph here is an example of why you shouldn't type when you're drunk.

I have a pair of good neighboors who seem to drink almost every night at their apartment, and while the guy can kinda hold his drinks a bit longer or just restrains himself better, the woman doesn't seem to.
I've seen how she becomes a total crackpot, and I sure don't like it.

I can't believe how people knowingly turn themselves into moronic, violant lackwits with alcohol and other drugs. If someone wants to calm down, ok I guess, little bit of alcohol doesn't matter much, but not getting pissed drunk.

My uncle was an alcoholic and died from complications of drinking, but before that he managed to get a stroke from those complications and it wasn't a very lovely sight. I sure am happy he died and it couldn't have come sooner.

I'm not really too pretentious when it comes to beer, I think the company is more important

I'd rather drink heineken, but I have a weak spot for Timisoreana. Being the local patriot that I am, I take pride in the fact that this is one of the oldest brands of beer in this part of Europe, founded in 1718.
The story is pretty funny, actually. Around that time (early 18th century), these parts were unter turkish rule. The austrians came and pretty much kicked their asses (the Otoman Empire was begining to crumble anyway), and this side of Romania was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire for a while. So when the austrian soldiers garissoned here, they found the taste of water horibble, this being a marshy land, they being used with the clear waters of "mountany" Austria. So what do you do when you don't like the water somwhere? You make a beer factory
The factory still exists, beer is produced in (mostly) the same buildings as in 1718, of course, with modern equipment. I think they did a "short" on Discovery about it.

Considering it was at Ft. Jackson, I'm guessing it wasn't combat arms and there were women present.

Parachute Rigger. Our barracks @ Fort Jackson were on top of a man made hill called "Tank Hill" and I think they told us these barracks were from World War II. I do not know but they were very old and impossible to keep clean ( sand everywhere )t. There were other barracks called Hollywood and they were modern & had A/C, mine did not. Our motto was "Cold Steel". I drove my main drill instructor (Sargeant) mad.

Yes there were women, but in separate barracks, a lot of them got hurt in the obstacle course, knees, pelvis injuries, broken legs and ankles.

Has anyone tried Presidente? It is a Pilsner type.

You just haven't had any of my beers they don't resemble anything close to piss water.
