]Reading all six original novels the first novel is way better written and with more detail information.
My gut feeling the first novel was mostly Beverly's with her husband writing the other five novels. That would explain why everyone didn't like the second novel and it wasn't because Paul changed from being the hero.
It was the writing and the less content, information and pages.
I could tell it was written by somebody that didn't grow up with the story in their mind like they was living it.( Like authors of Lord's of Rings, Harry Potter or Games of Thrones).
It felt like he couldn't put to written word what his wife was telling him because he didn't have it in his mind his whole life like his wife.
