Doesn't matter how great a peoples' past when they are afflicted with poverty and oppression it turns them into something outwardly repellant to people who have never experienced it. This is one of Leto's 'lessons'.

What evidence do you have that the museum Fremen are what they are because of poverty and oppression?

the 'greening' of dune would certainly have been oppression off the culture that had made them great...

driven well into baja chasing peaks and fishing a couple times

when you get back near the cities you finding the indigenous kids panhandling
and sometimes one of them is a tow head...

amercans will be out with their blankets
hawking goods to travelers

theyll have piles of old credit cards

to pick through given nostaligy...

dont forget alot of budging keychains will be suddenly without value other than nostalgia...
