Panegyrist means eulogist, aka "New User on Board"

Post by Sheuset »

Hello, everyone. I'm a new user of Jacarutu and have only been lurking for a short while. I used to be a regular poster at alt.fan.dune back in the day, but that was probably ten years ago.

To begin with, I have to say that I don't like science fiction or fantasy. The only book in either category that I can say I enjoyed (except possibly LotR), is Dune. I read it when a reading group i was in decided to read it. I was totally shocked how much I loved it. As another newb said, it changed my life.

I'm probably a rank beginner compared to most of you. I've read Dune 6 times and the entire FH series 3 times. I tried the first three prequels, hoping the sin twins would eventually figure it out, but of course, they never did. Once Hunters came out, I hoped they would follow what was written before, but it felt like reading a cartoon sequel. Everything I loved about FH's works had been bastardized. I didn't read Sandworms. If anyone thinks I should, please advise so. I'll give it a shot if it's worthwhile.

I'm a band director in the San Antonio, Texas, USA area. Oh yeah, I sometimes host Dune Board Game parties. I have the Parker Brothers version, which is pretty good game that you should try. I've never played the Avalon HIll version.

If I had to put the books in chair order (band director talk), I would have to say:
1. Dune
2-3. Heretics/Chapterhouse (one long book, really)
4. Children
5. Messiah
6. God Emperor

I know there are plenty of you who love GEoD, but I just don't.

Dune is Burhan

We definitely had a jihad going on over here. I would say that you should read the novel of the hacks twain if you intended to be a fighter, but if not, there is no reason to read that shit.

Welcome!!!

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.
