I think my point is, the government had at least three years and millions of dollars to prepare for this and they couldn't set up a decent web site. Now they're going to be in charge of our health. This doesn't fill me with confidence.

Maybe the issue of concern about government health care should have been more about what quality programmers should work on the website rather than about whether the government should handle health insurance affairs. :) The Moby Games site isn't doing so hot either, and the programmers tried to remake the site to be more appealing to iphone and ipad users. Maybe website programmers ain't what they used to be?

Too many Hipster Hackers, not enough Neckbeard Hackers.

As for healthcare.gov, I expect that the US government, like many governments, is required by law to contract these projects out to the lowest bidder. That, and they were probably constrained by a deadline set by legal, political and bureaucratic forces, rather than by a realistic estimate of the amount of work to be done.

Heads up.

The Health Care website is fully functioning in Connecticut where I live. The price is steeper than my Dad's current Health Care plan, but it may go down based off gradual competition. The reason why it's functioning may be due to the fact that my state is under Democratic control, so the Republican states may have badly working sites because they don't want them to work. Nonetheless, my Dad (who used to work for IBM) says that Obama should have computer experts who understand how to make the site more accessible and workable on many different kinds of computers, since not all computers were created equal. The complaints against it so far still sound like they come from upstart characters from an old Masterpiece Theatre production.
