i like this place...
been lurking a few weeks,
over the years id searched a thought or two on the subject and gotten mostly crap fantastic
invariably from the myriad of sites yall are panning
just found yall recently
this last year
had reason to pick up the series again,
been a good 15 years since i last read god emperor for the 10th something time...
started at messiah and am just about to finish chapterhouse
amazing how much more there is in it all for you as you mature
his influences become noticable if youve kept up your studies
i suspect frank did more homework than all of us combined
its been years now,
but rumors of a seventh book caught my attentions several back
and i was excited
months later i picked up a prequel...
hate to admit i actually read it through
glad to admit i threw it away
wouldnt read the others if you paid me
poor frank
its would seem genius doesnt spawn so well

Sorry about the search feature... feel free to start a new topic. If you duplicate something and we can find it, I'll just merge it with the existing topic.distrans wrote:thansk yall,

Re: i like this place...
i use google search a lot. For example, "distrans jacurutu" gets a lot better hits there then "distrans" does here. Just the way that the cheesy phpBB search feature works. Maybe it'll get better with the next version of the board.

I've seen sites with custom google searches, is php compatible with such a feature?

Re: i like this place...
I've been playing around trying to write one for another forum without much luck. It seems like the older ways of doing this don't apply to updated versions of phpBB. What I did do was alter my board settings to eliminate some of the restrictions which made the search much better.inhuien wrote:I've seen sites with custom google searches, is php compatible with such a feature?
When all else fails what you want to do is to type this into Google:
site:jacurutu.com then enter your search terms.
For example, site:jacurutu.com god emperor
Having said that, there are available options that are not free.

So by prefixing "site:jacurutu.com" before the search criteria limits the results to that domain. Didn't know that, cheers.

Re: i like this place...
not hardly ... and it's a goddamn pain to hand-key all those fucking tags ....
before I had the macro on the game-controller thing, I had it typed out
on a Notepad .txt file, which I would copypasta, but I haven't seen that
file in awhile, and by the time I type it all out again it's easier to just
click "submit" and not copy that for future use, because, as I have
stated above, I'm leery about claiming Water on Faith these days, and
the effort involved in copy-paste & .txt files seems just too fucking much ....
@distrans - seriously, Welcome, Twice Welcome ...
your posts so far have be succinct & relevant, your ideas & comments have been
spot-on & thought-provoking .... they have spurred yet another round of SERIOUS
Dune Discussion (Frank's, not the Other Shit) which is ALWAYS what We Need Around Here;
if you haven't yet picked-up on one of the Basic Sietch Rules, we always encourage
new members to read thru the old threads & "revive" them .... we would rather see
one HUGE, multiple-paged thread on any given single topic that a shitload of two or
three post clone threads .... and I encourage going back to Page One of these types
of threads & reading them all the way thru, topic derailments & all .... and if you really
want to impress me, quote-back from deep in those threads, something someone said
in 2009 or something, and ask them if they still believe the same thing ... our study,
appreciation, & understanding of Frank's Dune is a living, evolving thing .....
&etc.

Re: i like this place...
it is extremity hard to get banned from this board ... by design ...
(c.f. Over There, Posts I Think Will be Deleted at DN, Posts I Think Should be Deleted
at DN, Byron Merrit is a Pussy, &etc.)
as Water-master & shit, I'd have to be against spilling the water of anyone only
based on the fact that their "entrance" into Dune was thru the various games ....
altho, as a sop to you, I would agree that the opinions of anyone whose only
exposure to Dune thru said vidya-games can and should be discounted & ignored ....
but NOT ridiculed & dismissed ... RPG Dune-folks should be treated like the retarded
cousins they are .... loved, encouraged, but not listened to or taken seriously ....
