thankee - I just created an hysterical email & mass-mailed it to every Reactionary Southern Patriot I know ...

(same bunch of shitheels that sent me over 50 identical forwarded hysterical emails today about
"Executive Order 13575" ... I do not know what "Executive Order 13575" is, as I could not be
bothered to click all the links in the emails, and no details were given in the emails themselves
other than something about the Federal President trying to "kill the country" ... which sounds
like a good idea to me, and I would be in favor of that ...)

Words from OBAMA just a few days before the election in Nov 2008. Paraphrased -- in just a few days I/we will begin to fundamentally transform America!
How can anyone not believe that he (and others like him) fully intends to destroy America as we know it. And We The People just sit by and watch it happen. I'm as guilty as the next person; because I feel helpless as to what to do. I am just one vote. It just makes me sick to think of the vast number of idiots that will vote for him (and others like him) for his / their re-election in Nov 2012. Obama makes Roosevelt, Johnson, Carter and Clinton look like boy scouts!!!!!
Not concerned yet? Check out Executive Order 13575 and watch the commentary on youtube below.

Administration of Barack Obama, 2011

Executive Order 13575—Establishment of the White House Rural Council
June 9, 2011

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United
States of America and in order to enhance Federal engagement with rural communities, it is
hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Policy. Sixteen percent of the American population lives in rural counties.
Strong, sustainable rural communities are essential to winning the future and ensuring
American competitiveness in the years ahead. These communities supply our food, fiber, and
energy, safeguard our natural resources, and are essential in the development of science and
innovation. Though rural communities face numerous challenges, they also present enormous
economic potential. The Federal Government has an important role to play in order to expand
access to the capital necessary for economic growth, promote innovation, improve access to
health care and education, and expand outdoor recreational activities on public lands.

To enhance the Federal Government's efforts to address the needs of rural America, this
order establishes a council to better coordinate Federal programs and maximize the impact of
Federal investment to promote economic prosperity and quality of life in our rural
communities.

Sec. 2. Establishment. There is established a White House Rural Council (Council).

Sec. 3. Membership. (a) The Secretary of Agriculture shall serve as the Chair of the
Council, which shall also include the heads of the following executive branch departments,
agencies, and offices:

(1) the Department of the Treasury;

(2) the Department of Defense;

(3) the Department of Justice;

(4) the Department of the Interior;

(5) the Department of Commerce;

(7) the Department of Health and Human Services;

(8) the Department of Housing and Urban Development;

(9) the Department of Transportation;

(10) the Department of Energy;

(11) the Department of Education;

(12) the Department of Veterans Affairs;

(13) the Department of Homeland Security;

(14) the Environmental Protection Agency;

(15) the Federal Communications Commission;

1

----------------------- Page 2-----------------------

(16) the Office of Management and Budget;

(17) the Office of Science and Technology Policy;

(18) the Office of National Drug Control Policy;

(19) the Council of Economic Advisers;

(20) the Domestic Policy Council;

(21) the National Economic Council;

(22) the Small Business Administration;

(23) the Council on Environmental Quality;

(24) the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs;

(25) the White House Office of Cabinet Affairs; and such other executive branch
departments, agencies, and offices as the President or the Secretary of Agriculture may, from
time to time, designate.

(b) A member of the Council may designate, to perform the Council functions of the
member, a senior-level official who is part of the member's department, agency, or office, and
who is a full-time officer or employee of the Federal Government.

(c) The Department of Agriculture shall provide funding and administrative support for
the Council to the extent permitted by law and within existing appropriations.

(d) The Council shall coordinate its policy development through the Domestic Policy
Council and the National Economic Council.

Sec. 4. Mission and Function of the Council. The Council shall work across executive
departments, agencies, and offices to coordinate development of policy recommendations to
promote economic prosperity and quality of life in rural America, and shall coordinate my
Administration's engagement with rural communities. The Council shall:

(a) make recommendations to the President, through the Director of the Domestic Policy
Council and the Director of the National Economic Council, on streamlining and leveraging
Federal investments in rural areas, where appropriate, to increase the impact of Federal dollars
and create economic opportunities to improve the quality of life in rural America;

(b) coordinate and increase the effectiveness of Federal engagement with rural
stakeholders, including agricultural organizations, small businesses, education and training
institutions, health-care providers, telecommunications services providers, research and land
grant institutions, law enforcement, State, local, and tribal governments, and nongovernmental
organizations regarding the needs of rural America;

(c) coordinate Federal efforts directed toward the growth and development of geographic
regions that encompass both urban and rural areas; and

(d) identify and facilitate rural economic opportunities associated with energy
development, outdoor recreation, and other conservation related activities.

Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) The heads of executive departments and agencies shall
assist and provide information to the Council, consistent with applicable law, as may be
necessary to carry out the functions of the Council. Each executive department and agency
shall bear its own expense for participating in the Council.

2

----------------------- Page 3-----------------------

(b) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i) authority granted by law to an executive department, agency, or the head thereof;
or

(ii) functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to
budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(c) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the
availability of appropriations.

(d) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or
procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its
departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

cookie for the young'un .... :cookie sm:

"another stupid, un-needed government committee that will waste time" :
the adjectives will be proven one way or the other in the future (altho, given
the Federal Government's Track Record, I couldn't argue with this opinion)
(but, ever-now&then, them young, brite-eyed kids on Democratic Staffs do
come up with some stuff that almost-might work; thinking here of a little over
half of Gore's ReGo re-shuffling that worked out (sorta) ....)

but yes, what this is doing is creating a "rural task force", to present "policy"
to the Administration (I do not understand if this type of thing carries over
from Admin to Admin - supposing the current Federal President does not win another
term, will this "Rural Council" automatically disband ? I kinda doubt that, tho ... once
something like this is set in place, it usually hangs around on its own momentum ...)

every one should've immediately understood what this is all about from the phrase
"expand access to {the} capital" in Section One, along with "coordinate Federal
programs and maximize the impact of Federal investment"
.... so I'm reading this as
a plan to herd all the lobbyists and recipients of AgDept kickbacks & contractors and so
forth into one pen .... instead of having them wander loose all over Washington, grazing
at each separate trough ....

from Section Four, Mission & Function:
"streamlining and leveraging Federal investments in rural areas"
"coordinate and increase the effectiveness of Federal engagement"
"increase the impact of Federal dollars and create economic opportunities"
"coordinate Federal efforts"
"identify and facilitate rural economic opportunities"

again, all that is about how & where to pass out the Federal Monies;
and again, this is a committee to advise the Administration on Policy ...

of course, that's what they want you to think ....

as you know, (@the Honey Trap, here) "Rural Broadband" was a big Talking Point during the campaign; as a Priority,
it kinda got pushed back, in favor of bullshit like the Depression, the prolapse of the American Banking System, fighting
the Secret War against the Nazi-Aliens, &etc.

so I don't think the Rural Council was created "for" the Rural Broadband issue, but I do think it was created to streamline
all the "issues" to one policy committee ... as I said above, so the example here would be that instead of lobbying all the
different Federal Agencies & so forth, the Education Department, Ag, Interior, FCC, and so forth, Rural Broadband Advocates
will be told to take their bullshit to the "Rural Council" ....

and since freemarket-robberbaron-capitalism + advancing technology provided semi-highspeed innerwebz access to the
main compound, via the local small-town boys and a shitload of new towers, I've been less interested in the issue ....

cuz Imma selfish-bastard li'dat ....

I'll look into it, or atleast, I'll ask some folks I know who have been involved in the issue;
home-schoolers who live out on some really remote ranches down the Staked Plains ....

I'm just betting that they are now getting instructions to take all their stuff to this Council,
and quit harassing the FCC & Ag Department ...

on a related note, tho, it looks as if the pay-outs in crop-insurance this year are going to
destroy most of the co-ops in West Texas and gouge the Texas State Budget to the point
that Federal-President-in-Waiting Perry is going to have to ask "the Federals" for money -
some forms of "disasters" have already been declared .... spring cotton anywhere west of
the Colorado River is a complete loss ... (that's the Colla-RAY-doh River, in west Central
Texas, not the Colla-RAH-doh River that runs into Lake Mead & Boulder Dam in Nevada
(which is Nee-VAH-da, not Nee-VAD-ah)(Nuh-VAY-da is a county in south Arkansas)

Hey, SR, I stumbled across a movie props web site that sold Civil War props of various kinds, and it got me to thinking ...

In your re-enactments, do participants use movie props, or are they frowned upon? I imagine genuine artifacts from the period would be preferred, but how do replicas - hand-made or otherwise - movie props, etc fare when comparing re-enactment garb/accoutrements?

I forgot to follow up... the museum was tiny but the diorama and the accompanying story was great.

...

HBJ, don't you think actual artifacts would be too valuable to use in a re-enactment? I hope they use replicas!

BLACK COLLEGE STUDENT WINS FIGHT TO DISPLAY CONFEDERATE FLAG

BLACK COLLEGE STUDENT WINS FIGHT TO DISPLAY CONFEDERATE FLAG IN DORM ROOM

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 10:59am by Madeleine Morgenstern

Image

A black college student has won the fight to keep a Confederate flag in his dorm room after school officials initially told him to take it down.

The University of South Carolina Beaufort told 19-year-old Byron Thomas on Thursday he could keep the flag up, after the freshman was told two weeks ago to remove it because of student complaints.

University spokeswoman Candace Brasseur told the Beaufort Gazette Thomas was initially asked to remove the flag because it violates a student code of conduct discouraging bigotry, but the school’s legal counsel ultimately advised the university to allow him to display the flag.

When he was first told in November to take the flag down, Thomas posted a four-minute video on YouTube saying he views the Confederate flag as a sign of Southern pride, not of racism, and was not going to remove it. The video was re-posted on CNN’s iReport, where it has been viewed more than 70,000 times.

“It’s not racist for me,” Thomas, a Georgia native, said in the video. “All it is is a symbol that I see as a sign of respect, and people don’t want to see it that way.”

Before the school relented, Thomas said he felt his First Amendment rights were being violated, and said he considered legal action if he was not allowed to display the flag.

A class project made him come to the realization that the flag’s real meaning has been hijacked, he told the Associated Press in an interview. He said he wants people to carefully consider issues of race and not just have knee-jerk reactions to symbols.

“When I look at this flag, I don’t see racism. I see respect, Southern pride,” he told the AP. “This flag was seen as a communication symbol” during the Civil War.

Thomas said he also dislikes the term “African American” because it makes him feel like a half-citizen.

“I was not born in Africa, I was born in Augusta, Georgia,” he said in the video.

Thomas said he’s received a huge outpouring of support since the ordeal began.

“I’ve been getting a lot of support from people. My generation is interested in freedom of speech,” Thomas said.

He said he talked to his parents — who grew up amid the Civil Rights movement — once the uproar started and said they weren’t happy about his decision to display it, though that probably won’t keep him from putting it up again.

“I don’t want to make my parents mad,” he said. “I may wait until Monday to put it up.”

I was thinking about this a little more, you'd want to be able to fire blanks so it seems real artifacts would be out.

Here's a site I found selling them: http://www.blank-guns-depot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Interesting side note:
In compliance with Federal Law All Blank guns and all Replica Guns Replicating a model newer than 1896 must have a Red/Orange tip in the end of the Barrel. None of our Replica or Blank Guns can be converted or modified to fire real ammunition. Our Replicas are sold and intended for Display, Theatrical and Historical Value only.

folks bring "artifacts" for display quite often; usually not actually used on the field (altho I know one
guy who has a naval telescope from the early 1850s he carries and uses, and passes around to the general
staff) ....

as to firearms, there are a ton of companies all over the world making operable black-powder reproduction
rifles and handguns - Cabella's Navy Colt (with brass plating, like the Confederate model) is going for $200
brand new these days ... every now and then you might see someone who's brought a restored firearm from
the period that will demo fire it ...

you can often find swords & sabers from the period on display; there are a wide range of repro & replica blades
available - f'instance, my "parade sword" is a short Fayetteville Arsenal artillery command sword, very ornate
hilt & guard, etched blade, &etc, very heavy & well-made, from an outfit in Spain that's made bull-fighting
swords forever - I paid over $500 for it 20 years ago; pretty much priceless today ... then, I also have 5 or
six of the "Paki-steel" cavalry sabres, cheap ($30-$50) repros of the 1850 Cavalry Saber - these are still pretty
good little tools, tho ... tough & plain (altho the scabbards will tarnish & rust out real quick w/o some coating);
but they are cheap & easy to come by (esp in bulk) so they're perfect for banging around and treating rough ...

as far as "movie-props" go - these days, you have to remember that most projects set in the period (of the War
or after, into the Wild West era) are outfitted by "re-enactors" ... there are re-enacting units that are
regularly used as "extras", esp here in Texas, where it seems they are filming one Confederate Zombie Movie after
another ... and that does lead to a whole-nother kettle of bad fish - "This (whatever) was in that Movie ..."

f'instance, some years ago, my Idiot Brother and his boys rode with Terry's Texas Rangers, a very large and spread
out re-enacting "organization" ... about 150 of them were used as extras in the movie "Ride With the Devil" ....
anyway, the point is that now, every piece of shit in my Idiot Brother's kit he claims was "used in Ride with the
Devil" .... is this true? possibly ... was any of it on camera? aww, not really ... does this (unprovable) fact up
the value of the item? sure it does, in his mind, anyway ....

more on this later, if I remember it ... i gots to go now ...

My dad got into black powder years ago, he used to make replicas from kits, they worked, and were lots of fun to shoot. Messy as hell, though.
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hypatia approaches one.
