Tech: Mozilla Thread
I figure there's a bunch of us using the Mozilla stuff -
y'all convinced me some time back to try Firefox,
which I've done - now tho, I'm also using Chrome
& Opera along with Firefox & IE9(beta) {I've got
the IE9(beta) totally hooked back up to the MSDev
site, sending just everything I do with it straight
back to them - and oh yes, I'm surfin' DEEP into the
dark underworld of Russian Mafia porno click-farms,
and doing everything I can think of to lock that bitch up}
anyway, I'd like a thread just about the Mozilla stuff, what
add-ons you're using, finding helpful, which one should be
avoided, &etc ...
somewhere along the way, they added "personas" to the
"appearance" add-ons - what the difference is between a
"persona" & an "appearance", I can't tell ... except they're
on different pages ... it all looks like "skins" to me ...
so currently these are available :
Dune_Universe by russianblue
(Lynch84 - Kyle with black rubber suit & thumper)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/67973/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
God Emperor of Dune by MilesTeg
(don't recognize the graphic for Leto; sure someone does)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/174699/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Arrakis by SangD
(sanddune and "Dune" in bogus font)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/173894/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dune Books and Movie by Bulldog TWB
(Jessica to the Winds of Cover, but just the back of her head; w/o dat ass, this is useless)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/103907/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
these all suck Eric Cartman's balls ...
triple cookies and full entry in OH History to the first of you people to create an OH/Jacurutu skin for Firefox
using the Dunefish OH font ..... ideally I'd like to see two skins - one using the Jacurutu banner and one for the
Orthodox Herbertarian Jihad ...
(I'd also like a separate category for "Tech" stuff, out of Ghafla ...)
(and I'd like cream-filled donuts ... bout six oughta do me ...)
}edited to amend topic title{

One of the things I really love about Firefox is that if you just type "jacurutu" or "hairy ticks" into the address bar, a couple of seconds later you're magically looking at the appropriate site.SandRider wrote:Firefox 4.0 up & running ....

I tried one of the 4 betas, and it didn't do it, so I uninstalled it.

It's pretty good so far but a lot of people I'm working with are having trouble with the QuickTime plug-in. On a Mac you can run it in 32 bit mode to avoid the hassle. On a PC, just make sure you have all your Adobe updates. Google Gears didn't have an update last I checked.inhuien wrote:Let us know how it goes, the missus uses it but I (being the man) deal with it's set-up.

I've just installed v4 on my Linux OpenSuse - no problems yet, though I'll be keeping a weather eye on this topic.
I'll also let you all know if I hit any snags.

Ok, the good news is that you can restore the address bar functionality by typing in about:config and changing the value of keyword.URL to: http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky&q=
Just like to get Tab Focussing back (Click a tab to focus it, so you can switch between tabs with the arrow keys), you have to edit chrome.css and fuck about with lines of code. I like a lot of the changes - FF is getting better, but it's starting to annoy me that they keep "fixing" the useful bits and justifying it by telling us that they're easy to put back.
[EDIT: Awww - "Paste & Go" and "Paste & Search" FTW - no more hitting enter like a mug

and not compatible is the FoxTab add-on, which I'd been meaning to rave
about in this thread .... this is the FIRST add-on that wouldn't work after
a FireFox updated that I actually used ... alot ... like, now, I have to rebuild
my bookmarks menu and shit ....

Lifesavers:
Ad Block - If it was a woman I'd sleep with it more than once. I might even marry it since browsing without it just isn't the same.
http://adblockplus.org/en/
No Script - Ad Block's younger sexier kinkier sister.
http://noscript.net/
Web of Trust - You'll love this one especially SR since most porn sites get 'untrusted' ratings due to content. It's kind of like Ad Block and No Script's Daddy's Shotgun.
http://www.mywot.com/
Download Helper - The creepy smelly guy who's hands smell like too much lotion. Great for ripping video off websites. Especially the lotion kinds of video...
http://www.downloadhelper.net/
I also like the extended bookmark toolbar, Multirow I think its called. Was the one you posted called FoxTab? I had it running pre-4.0 but never bothered to update it.

Re: Tech: Mozilla Thread
I've got to remember to check back with the add-on page after upgrades -
five days after my last post here bitching about FoxTab, the FF5 compatible
update was posted - I just now saw it ....
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxtab/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I suppose I didn't auto-notifications of the update because I had the thing "disabled",
because I had it set as home page & new tab & all that; on the other hand, since it
was only disabled and not uninstalled, the update slid right in there, I enabled the
thing, and retained all the previous settings and bookmarks ... which is fortunate,
because right after I got the update, I clicked its options and immediately realized
it had been a little complicated to set-up .... and I couldn't remember shit about it,
and was not looking forward to figgerin' it all out again ...
I really like this thing, it's been useful and works with the way I "surf" ....
I don't know if it would be as useful on a single small monitor system, but it looks
great and is very functional on my big-ass screens ...
speaking of which then, one of favorite "themes" took a few weeks to get the Five update
posted, but it has now, the "glowygold" version of "glowplug" ...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... gold-8890/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
there are versions of all the "glowy" skins for firefox & thunderbird, which I like -
with the two monitors, my "first tasks" involve opening both, one on each screen -
so I like having the compatible themes ....

Re: Tech: Mozilla Thread
>> which brings up the side-issue (again) of MORE SKINS FOR THE SIETCH & T(A)U PLEASE <<
altho, over time here, while I mostly ignore alot of the technical stuff I donot understand and
donot want to have to learn, I thought I heard that php skins could be loaded by the invidual
user (file from their own system?) - if this is right, I think I'm ready to tackle that, if someone
will post the step-bys ....
after using firefox for awhile now, I've become very addicted to "user-configuration" ... if I cannot change all the
colors and move buttons around, I find myself getting cranky ... I've also not gotten into setting up separate "profiles"
for FireFox, because I began using Windows User Profiles ... which, altho taking time to set-up and tweak (which I
actually really enjoy and has become another "hobby") has proven to be very effective for me ...
the screen shots above are from my "general" user account, with Windows colors & fonts tweaked around the
FireFox glowygold theme ... one of the others is "Genealogy", a very simple grey & black scheme, with the sidebar
set-up for all the genealogical database programs, and the FireFox & Chrome & IE9 brower settings for that profile
set for the genealogical research - so all the hundreds of bookmarks I have for that stuff is stored in that User Profile,
which unclutters the bookmarks in other Profiles ... &etc ....
and "switch user" works just fine - I could "switch users" right here & now, go browse with firefox on the Genealogy
User Profile, do some research, add information to the database, whatever, "switch users" back to this profile, and
all the open programs are still right there - this instance of firefox would still have all the same tabs, this tab would
still be at the "reply box" ....
I don't know what the limit is on that kind of thing, would be of course relevant to memory & proc, but I have had
all four of the Windows User Profiles I've set up logged on, and each one filled with open programs and loaded
browsers and such, and been able to switch back and forth with no problems ....
that's more of a "Windows 7 Was My Idea" thread topic, but this is the thread I'm in now ...

Re: Tech: Mozilla Thread
one of the other firefox themes I just fucking love & is now also compatible with 5 is "walnut"
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... r-firefox/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... r-firefox/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I use those with the Abilene & Stagecoach fonts and such, for the 'old west' profile -
when I'm feelin' like a cowboy ... also, altho it's called "walnut", I'd say it's more of
a dark birdseye maple - the colors and texture also exactly match the big-ass desk
and the vermont light-cedar paneling and hardwood floor in my "study" - all of the
furniture in the house is either actual "antique" or atleast from the late fifties, and
most of the pieces are the light-colored maple or oak.
the other firefox add-on I've been wanting to recommend in the "All-in-One Sidebar"
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... e-sidebar/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
like most this stuff, setting it up to your personal taste and making it functional for your use
takes a little effort; & same as with most of this stuff, it mainly involving separating "feature"
from "mis-feature" .... this add-on has some things maybe somebody somewhere might find
convenient ...
