Duncan is deposited on Arrakis by the Guild and reports to Alia the situation on Salusa Secundus. Alia thinks Jessica has lost her mind for training Farad’n. He hides his grief at her obvious possession by staying in mentat mode. She has sent Ghanima with Irulan to Sietch Tabr which is still neutral ground and where negotiations are ongoing with the rebellious tribes. She orders Duncan to go there to keep an eye on things but secretly plans for him to have a fatal accident their. While waiting on his escort on the rooftop thopter pad Duncan jumps in the thopter and leaves alone. Once airborne he computes what she plans and cries about the loss of Alia to possession.
