What's in a name, er title?
Anyone ever notice that the Tleilaxu title Masheikh is remarkably similar to the title mashi'ach, which is Hebrew (I think) for 'the anointed one'. I would never have thought of it from looking at Messiah, but in the original language its a tad more obvious.
I love how Frank puts in little subtle details like that. Also looks like it has the title Sheikh in it as well. Cool huh?

Frank Herbert may indeed have intended some allusion of that sort (the BT Masters considered themselves the annointed, chosen ones), but in the original Arabic, masheikh is just one of a number of plural forms for the word sheikh ("old man, elder, leader, advisor") itself.
Obviously, in the future language of the BT, the word has developed into a new title and is used as both singular and plural.

Anyway, with regard to Masheikh; damn I thought I had something there. Aw well! I submit to Chigger (sure it won't be the last time).

I thought most American guys were cut, even the ones who aren't Jewish.

I see some Jew'ness with the BT. Secretive, think they will inherit the earth, think that non Jews are not a part of their big plan, have a name for non Jews, strange breeding practices.
A few things.

Ok...
I don't think Jews and BT are that similar...just how FH described the Jews in the last two books gives us his point of view on how he saw them and they are diff from the BT...

Orald's gonna love that post! You'd have to be more specific there SW, everything you listed there sounds like it describes Christians and Muslims too.
