Test post: the DE's influence on nudune

Post by lotek »

Do we have a thread about this already?
I am reading the DE at random, and I have found several occurrences of stuff used in mcdune, ranging from blatant plagiarism to more obscure references.

I seem to remember theKJA doesn't condone the DE neither does the HLP.

Aren't there some quotes from theKarbunkle stating that his shit has not ever been influenced by McNellis' work?

I wouldn't want to redocument something that has already been done :)

Why do the new prequels sometimes contradict the history set forth in THE DUNE ENCYCLOPEDIA compiled by
Dr. Willis E. McNelly?

"THE DUNE ENCYCLOPEDIA reflects an alternate "DUNE universe" which did not necessarily represent the "canon" created by Frank Herbert. Frank Herbert's son, Brian Herbert, writing with Kevin J. Anderson, IS continuing to establish the canon of the DUNE universe. This is being done with the full approval of the owner of the DUNE copyright, the Herbert Limited Partnership.

"While Frank Herbert himself considered THE DUNE ENCYCLOPEDIA interesting and entertaining, he did not refer to Dr. McNelly's derivative work while writing any of his DUNE novels. Likewise, in writing their DUNE novels (beginning with DUNE: HOUSE ATREIDES), Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson have exclusively used, and will continue to use, Frank Herbert's original notes as well as their own imaginations, and not THE DUNE ENCYCLOPEDIA.

"We hope that the millions of DUNE fans will continue to enjoy all of the works written in Frank Herbert's marvelous universe."

A letter written by
Dr. Willis McNelly,
Brian Herbert, and
Kevin J. Anderson

ok so that means that if I have evidence they used stuff from the DE we'll have another proof of their lies.
And proof I'll find ;)

Yeah, you worked harder proofs in first-year geometry, Lotek.

Idiot One and Idiot Two undoubtedly crib ideas from the DE; it's not like either one of them has ever had an original thought in their lives.

yeah we don't dispute the fact that these "borrowings" exist, but have they been documented yet?

It's just that I've started reading the DE and I'd like to put this to use for the Jihad :)

check thru the interviews in the basement @T(A)U - off hand, I don't recall either of them (or Merritt) saying
much about the DE - only that letter the HLP landsharks forced McNelly to sign, and Merritt saying he'd never
read the thing ... but there may be more, just a few words in passing ... worth it to collect all the damning
little statements you can find into one post and then list the things taken straight from the DE ...

(and BTW, to everyone, look over the interviews collected there - if you know of some that aren't included,
please post them there, in their entirety, with a link to the original page ....)(I know there's a bunch out
there from Keith, blabbering about whatever comic book project he had completed that week - if you
find one that has a snippet of lies about Dune, please post that part only, noted as an "excerpt" - I get enough
of his other horseshit everyday on the twitting-thing ...)

(and I think it's more than enough of a Service To Humanity for us to just hunt down and publicly post Keith's
lies about Frank, the Notes, Brian's contribution, &etc. ... to try to catalog all his lies would be
a task beyond our meager skillz .... shit, look at the 180 pages devoted to his twits ... and I'll guarantee
you, a bunch of stuff just slipped on by us, either because we were all sick to death of reading him, or
the bullshit was so outrageous, it didn't seem to need pointing out ... some poor child in the far
distant future can have the onerous task of compiling and indexing The Complete HorseShit of
Kevin J. Anderson
for his PhD in English Literature: Notorious Hacks of the 21st Century ...)

One thing to always keep in mind in connection with this is that McNelly and FH supposedly talked a lot on the phone and that it's possible that FH made notes during those conversations and that those are what KJA & BoBo are referring to.

Sure, I believe they're pinching stuff from the Encyclopedia, too, but if we're going to stay honest we have to at least acknowledge that there are other possibilities....

WEM: So I was thinking the other day, what about Mohiam as Jessica's mother?
FH: Eh? Hmm... well, I don't know about that.... [scribbles on note pad: Mohiam Jessica's mother?] I'd have to think about it, but offhand, I'd say...
WEM: Well, how about we put it in the Encyclopedia as a joke?

I think it'd be well worth it and very interesting, as they're so eager to point out that nudune shit is so much more valid than the DE

which is why I posted in the test forum, to first get a full picture to make my mind up.
When I read your post I got it the other way round, that McNelly put some of Frank's unused stuff in the DE alongside his. Maybe a bit of both is the most likely I guess.

There's been so many lies and contradictions it's becoming a bit muddled(which serves Keith and Bobo)

I could see FH answering questions or clarifying points for McNelly; that makes sense.

(Of course in the specific case of Mohiam-as-Jessica-mama, the story is that it's the one thing FH objected to, so that explanation wouldn't fly. ;) )

Well if there is common data between The Notes and the DE, and that's the best case scenario for what's left of the hack's credibility, there is still the fact they were adamant the DE is not canon.
So logically anything that's in the nudune books AND in the DE should be considered non canon!

man, I just can't believe you got me to post Dune Content in the Test Forum ...

didn't even look @the forum category, I was just replying to the "New Posts" ....

and I only logged on to post in the Test Forum ... and there's a New Post,
and it's lotek talking about The Jihad ... and then, well, fuck me blind, there's[*]
me, just a-postin' & postulatin' away ....

now, do you remember when you put on the Usher's Jacket, and informed the poor, tired, dusty, thirsty,
hopeless, homeless, and disillusioned Lost Brethren who had somehow managed to stumble, alone and
weary, across the empty bled to trip across our waterseals and gain some small moment of peace and
triumph, that, say there's an Introduction Forum, you know, it's right HERE ?

so anyway, say, there's a description of each forum's intended content on the Board Index, right HERE,
and one for this here forum says Use this forum to test avatars, signatures or whatever
and I'll grant you that "whatever" can be stretched to cover a whole mess of things, but buryin' Important
Srs Bizns of the Orthodox Herbertarian Jihad in the geeksquad corner of the sietch ain't one of them ...

but I just popped in to see if I could use the BBcode to link to some little evil talking smilies, and also to see
if some of the more funky tags like
& [rule] & would work, because I'd never tried them in this
forum's reply box (they won't, it's only the tags those HyperText Nazi admins have enabled) and I somewhere
in there I realized some of the smilies utilized some form of XHTML [flash] I'd never see before, but I'd just read
your forum-appropriate post about the flash and
swf stuff [ot](which I was now going to compliment you on, for using the Test Forum for testing things
like images & links & banners & fancy hacker bullshit before fucking up a thread out in the common sietch area,
but ... what the fuck, you've now deleted those posts and the "use flash in sig?" thread is now about the
SandChigger climbing under a house and more of Freak's tramatic childhood [ot]which still doesn't justify
all the dope you smoke; give it a rest already, pothead, you ain't Bob Marley (or Willie ..)[/ot][/ot] and I thought,
yeah, no matter how cool those little yellow smiley-faces with the grey bowl-cut hair and shaggy grey eyebrows,
(and dead-on gesturing hands) spitting out the actual audio recordings of "I'm the Decider" and "Fool me twice,
won't get ... uh .. shame on, uh ... won't get fooled again" and "Restore Chaos" and "The Innernets got these
rumors", those things would be resource-hogs and slow down page-loads, esp. once everybody started using
them, and creating them (I've already made one with DuneFish's Keith walking up into some twin peaks with
clouds drifting by, and a comet-smiley dropping three lines down and back-spacing 20 spaces, slamming into
in to the mountains in a fireball that would make Michael Bey jizz in his pants, throwing out a ring of debris before
settling into a low hanging cloud that takes about 10 seconds to fully dissipate, all linked to, in order, a .wav
file of a 1940's voice sound effects guy doing a whistling bullet, the old "babbling crowd" .wav file from the
"extras" folder on the Windows95 CD, an MP3 file that claims to be ACE's blowing up "weapons caches" in the
desert west of Kuwait City in 1991, an MP3 of a gentle summer rainshower for the dust falling, fading into a
very old MIDI synth version of Cat Steven's "Bright, Sun Shiny Day" ... which reminds me, I was going to add
a sun rising up from the bottom of the post's frame and add the birds chirping from Walt Disney's Song of
the South
;

but, I do recall the frustration and alienation I felt when you fucktards would post all those yewtubes I couldn't
watch, and comment amongst yourselves and just laugh & laugh & laugh, while I hung around the waterseals
straining to maintain some slight connection over a 56K dial-up modem, which never performed above 30,
and fought with Satan's Apprentices at Verizon, that, fuck no, getting my phone back on by Monday wouldn't
be alright ... and then one of you Inconsiderate Bastards would post not just one or two, but a fucking Baker's Dozen
of huge, two and a half or three or four megabyte images, and I'd have to just unplug my machine, because the
browser was going to choke and hang on it, anyway, and the BrainChildren in Redmond decided they didn't like
ctrl-alt-del putting it's steel-gripped claws around their little baby Window's neck, and when a browser hangs like
that, an "end process" from the Task Manager is going to either do a ShutDown or crash the fucking thing, anyway ...

so just because I done gots the Tron2.0 TachyonNet (with Three-Part Harmony, & Orchestration on the Side) and
access to more Streaming-TubeVideo Chinese Midget Farm Porn than I could ever drink enough to watch,
[OT] and I'm talking Midget Farm here ... them fucking little yellow bastards are cranking out a seemingless
endless supply of normal-sized Chinese girls (as relatively small they be to normal people) getting fucked in the ass
by not just Shetland ponies, but them little Midget horses, that ain't no bigger than Jack the Wonderdog ...
I'm telling you, friends, if that ain't the Sign of The EndTimes Oral Roberts went to his grave waiting on, I just don't know
what is;[/OT] that doesn't mean I'm gonna step all over the little people and ruin their little share of the sweet
KJA-hatin'
and good entertainment by loading down the pages with bouncing, singing smileys that quote
George W. Bush ... but, then again, why can't we enable some HTML? I think the only person around left on dial-up
is the Honey Trap ... altho when she's on Camfuze & Cam4, she suspiciously doesn't lag or lose the connection like she
does one-on-one on MSN ... curious ....

oh yeah, and speaking of the Honey Trap and huge fucking images, the PhotoHoster she pointed me at that was
set up by her buddy has been over-run by 4chan fucktards ... I figure it's only a few days away from being flooded
with little grainy low-res 120x120 pics of hairless Vietnamese children giving blowjobs to fat, pasty-white Germans...
if it isn't already, the last time I looked the 'recent upload' page was nothing but dicks ... literally; more dicks than ...
well, fuck, I don't think I've ever seen that many dicks all lined up in one place, not even in the army ... more
dicks than Camswap at 9:50pm on a Saturday night, or something ... I don't know ....

so I'm thinking of putting the Spanky McDune 3DCG stuff on deviantart ... I'm gonna sign up first and talk to some
of the regulars ... I'm buy no means a "visual artist" like most of those people are; the rending program I'm using is
mostly automatic ... it's more like a real slow, boring video game ...

so that covers all three of the current threads in this forum ...

and since I've gone on this long, I might as well drop the other thing I was going to do, in the "suggestions"
thread (which also covers bitches, gripes and complaints) to report that the post-reply box is sometimes
not loading fully, esp after a preview ... this started happening fairly regularly (enough that I'm typing this
in notepad, saving and then pasting and previewing, in case I have to "resend", which may or may not clear
the box) after I noticed that the 'font color' boxes were filling in slowly, one-by-one, row-by-row, which has never
happened before, even on dial-up; the page stops loading after the 'options' frame (which cuts off 'submit' and
such; leaving you stuck after a preview - you have to copy your text, and load up a new page) ...

so is this just me? I'm still using 610nm, BTW ... which, of course, actually says Font colour ...
who the fuck am I? Hugh Grant? as the kids say, lrn3engrish, eurofag; lol; rofl; twoh; &etc;

Imma ignore one of my own rules, too, and not proofread or preview this;
I started to, but goddamn ... tl;dr.

plus, I''m tired of you people and your silly, petty problems; I'm going to go scare the shit out of
little Danish teenies on blogtv, see if can get kicked from more rooms on stickam tonight than I
did last night, watch another two episodes of BSG80 on hulu, crash my idiot brother's email app
with terabytes of Fidel Castro's Speeches in wmv format attached to a faked notification that
he's been nominated for "Rebel of the Year" by the SCV, Texas Division (please complete and
fill out attached forms ASAP) from a spoofed address of one of the Brigade Commanders ...
which I did on purpose, because I know that blowhard will send out his "After Action Report"
on the Calvalry Competition in the morning, to coincide and just maybe beat out the
Division Chaplain's Weekly Wednesday Morning Prayer Message ... I'm betting Vernon will not
go to work, but sit at his machine waiting for this email to download from the Yahoo Mail Server -
which I find greatly amusing, BTW ... if my brother is anything atall, he's a fucking yahoo,
and seeing his name and "@yahoo" never fails to give me a silent chuckle deep inside my soul;
I'll also assume that the string-and-dixie-cup his local ISP uses will not support the time it would
take to download, anyway, and will kick him off atleast three times before he totally freaks the
fuck out, kills two dogs trying to get truck out of the barn and onto the highway, and tears into
town as fast as that old Ford will go, which, with his foot all the way down to the floorboard, is
about 2 miles to the gallon; assuming he has a full tank to begin with (which I don't) the trip should
cost him about 100 bucks in gas, not counting the pieces of tire he'll leave on the corners of the
twisting Farm Market road, and mail boxes he'll flatten, and other dogs he'll into ditches before
he gets to the ISP's business office, which only deals with sales, anyway, the servers and techs
are on the other side of town, but that won't stop him from throwing a grade-A hissy-fit
right there in front of the little receptionist, who just graduated high school in the spring, and ain't
really prepared to deal with crazy shit like this, and I'll assume that things will fall out of Vernon's mouth
like "Well, goddamnit ain't you got the fuckin' innernet on yer goddamn phone? Goodlord,
fuck me and the baby jesus, here's my muthafuckin' password, just get that fucker on yer
fuckin' phone or some shit! Goddamn, the Colonel said ASAP goddammit, that means
HURRY THE FUCK UP!"
... now of course, all that's assuming he doesn't get pulled over by a
County Deputy for excessive speed, property damage, and dog-murdering (and that's assuming
Vernon decides to actually pull over when the Deputy puts the lights on him; he might decide
to "fuck that" and initiate a two-county high-speed pursuit, ending tragically (and live on TV if the van
can get there in time) by a Texas Ranger Special Operations Marksman, firing thru the windshield and
into the obviously dangerous and drug-crazed redneck from the interstate overpass just outside Corsicana ...

then to bed, where I'll curl up with my old laptop that is now wirelessly connected by StarTrek Technology
to the wonders of the (high-speed) world wide webz, where I'll drift gently to sleep still pushing the space
bar to pump all my CamFuze Tokens into the Honey Trap's PayPal account, and she still won't take off
her white cotton wife-beater until she sees I am, in fact, fast asleep ...

:shhh:

I'm still using 610nm, BTW ... which, of course, actually says Font colour ...
who the fuck am I? Hugh Grant? as the kids say, lrn3engrish, eurofag; lol; rofl; twoh; &etc;

Imma ignore one of my own rules, too, and not proofread or preview this;
I started to, but goddamn ... tl;dr.

plus, I''m tired of you people and your silly, petty problems; I'm going to go scare the shit out of
little Danish teenies on blogtv, see if can get kicked from more rooms on stickam tonight than I
did last night, watch another two episodes of BSG80 on hulu, crash my idiot brother's email app
with terabytes of Fidel Castro's Speeches in wmv format attached to a faked notification that
he's been nominated for "Rebel of the Year" by the SCV, Texas Division (please complete and
fill out attached forms ASAP) from a spoofed address of one of the Brigade Commanders ...
which I did on purpose, because I know that blowhard will send out his "After Action Report"
on the Calvalry Competition in the morning, to coincide and just maybe beat out the
Division Chaplain's Weekly Wednesday Morning Prayer Message ... I'm betting Vernon will not
go to work, but sit at his machine waiting for this email to download from the Yahoo Mail Server -
which I find greatly amusing, BTW ... if my brother is anything atall, he's a fucking yahoo,
and seeing his name and "@yahoo" never fails to give me a silent chuckle deep inside my soul;

I was so sure there already was a thread about this that I couldn't find I expected it to wither and die fast, but I underestimated the capacity of the board to react to any question.

Huh?

I'm going through at present and making an index of articles by contributor for the Encyclopedia part of HToD and I noticed the other day that the suggestion that de Vries was a ghola is also in there. I couldn't recall that being discussed much.

#1 : strike rant about lotek's deletion of posts; this appears to have been my error;
sometime while poking the User Control Panel with a sharp stick, I reset the display
posting order to "ascend" or "descend" or whatever, and along with a bunch of changes
and resets, this really dicked things up ... I did not log-off or close out and reload the
site in between all these changes ... I guess I'd recommend doing so before going off
on a rant-tangent ...

#2 : the rest of that shit stands

#3 : still having the "Font colour" boxes load in line and slowly; I believe that what I was doing was
clicking on the page, putting focus on a element, before the thing had loaded; that's what seems
to cause the page to "not load fully" ... I just noticed that, and will test it out later ... it could be
that's what been happening - makes some sense ... (and again, would (mostly) be my fault (user
error) except that the font color boxes are loading funny, and are captioned "Font colour",
which even firefox spelchek says is spelled wrong ...)

#4 @Rob - been looking around yewtube for a shot of Captain Chris Morgan playing his pipes in
the weird-ass 1872 Cavalry uniform he has, with kilt and the little stocking with the dangling
balls (NB4...) and a funky kind of beret ... he has several authentic uniforms from Indian War
period Cav and Federal Civil War period with kilts ... pipes, fifes, and drums were popular in the
regimental musicans' units, and their dress and parade uniforms often included kilts, whether or
not the (Civil War) unit was an "Irish Brigade" ... there are still two official US Army parade uniforms
for active duty musicians that are kilts ... maybe more ...

I know I have some photos of Chris somewhere I'll post, and look around for some more; I was
sure I had one handy in the photos from an event last spring, but upon looking at them, he was
standing in front of his big-ass Sibley tent, with the beret-like hat and the vest of that uniform,
but still had blue jeans on with his keys and state park radio hanging from his belt - he had just
set the tent up and hadn't gotten into full dress yet ...

I personally feel that this message board, Jacurutu, is full of hateful folks who don't know
how to fully interact with people.

The 79th New York Cameron Highlanders were the only US regiment to have the kilt issued as part of their uniform. By the end of the Civil War they had changed to tartan trews, cheaper.

hey I liked your rant SR!
what the fuck, you've now deleted those posts and the "use flash in sig?" thread is now about the
SandChigger climbing under a house and more of Freak's tramatic childhood [ot]which still doesn't justify
all the dope you smoke; give it a rest already, pothead, you ain't Bob Marley (or Willie ..)[/ot][/ot] and I thought,
yeah, no matter how cool those little yellow smiley-faces with the grey bowl-cut hair and shaggy grey eyebrows,
(and dead-on gesturing hands) spitting out the actual audio recordings of "I'm the Decider" and "Fool me twice,
won't get ... uh .. shame on, uh ... won't get fooled again" and "Restore Chaos" and "The Innernets got these
rumors", those things would be resource-hogs and slow down page-loads, esp. once everybody started using
them, and creating them (I've already made one with DuneFish's Keith walking up into some twin peaks with
clouds drifting by, and a comet-smiley dropping three lines down and back-spacing 20 spaces, slamming into
in to the mountains in a fireball that would make Michael Bey jizz in his pants, throwing out a ring of debris before
settling into a low hanging cloud that takes about 10 seconds to fully dissipate, all linked to, in order, a .wav
file of a 1940's voice sound effects guy doing a whistling bullet, the old "babbling crowd" .wav file from the
"extras" folder on the Windows95 CD, an MP3 file that claims to be ACE's blowing up "weapons caches" in the
desert west of Kuwait City in 1991, an MP3 of a gentle summer rainshower for the dust falling, fading into a
very old MIDI synth version of Cat Steven's "Bright, Sun Shiny Day" ... which reminds me, I was going to add
a sun rising up from the bottom of the post's frame and add the birds chirping from Walt Disney's Song of
the South;
I don't smoke that much dope though...

I really thought that that question(of Keith using stuff from the DE but slagging it off publicily and I am not talking of the way he treats his gimp no his gimp not his chimp)had been raised before that I really expected someone(especially you or chig, you being the sarcastic ones with a bit of a bite)to laugh at me and jump on me like a pack made of a single wolf pouncing on the unsuspecting prey posting in the wrong thread.(I get your point though, and I'm not for the do as I do not as I say stuff, so you're welcome to rant at me anytime I start believing my own bullshit)

Lastly, maybe this topic could be moved(and trimmed from floodin')in the Dune Discussion forum where it belongs... yeah you know, the one that'd be perfect for it :)

At some point, this thread turned into some sort of ... I'm not sure ... weird performance art, maybe?

I couldn't be more lost if I was Kevin J. Anderson searching for a clue.
