“Women As Livestock” Bill Passes in Georgia

The Georgia abortion ban is on its way to the governor's desk, Lauren Barbato reports for the Ms. Magazine blog:

After an emotional 14-hour workday that included fist-fights between lobbyists and a walk-out by women Democrats, the Georgia House passed a Senate-approved bill Thursday night that criminalizes abortion after 20 weeks.

The bill, which does not contain rape or incest exemptions, is expected to receive a signature from Republican Gov. Nathan Deal.

Commonly referred to as the “fetal pain bill” by Georgian Republicans and as the “women as livestock bill” by everyone else, HB 954 garnered national attention this month when state Rep. Terry England (R-Auburn) compared pregnant women carrying stillborn fetuses to the cows and pigs on his farm. According to Rep. England and his warped thought process, if farmers have to “deliver calves, dead or alive,” then a woman carrying a dead fetus, or one not expected to survive, should have to carry it to term.

The bill as first proposed outlawed all abortions after 20 weeks under all circumstances. After negotiations with the Senate, the House passed a revised HB 954 that makes an exemption for “medically futile” pregnancies or those in which the woman’s life or health is threatened.

My wife was a nurse for a mother of two that was having a terrible pregnancy where her life was in danger. She couldn't eat and was wretching even when she was getting an IV. All of her stats were low....don't know what but my wife said it was pretty bad. She was 23 weeks along and decided to end the pregnancy for fear that she wouldn't be there for her other kids. The other nurses started saying that they weren't going to give her the same care or that they would refuse to care for her. My wife got so pissed off and had to set them straight. She walked in there and said she would do everything she could for this woman in her time of pain. Don't know what this world is coming to.

My whole life I've been thinking, "One day all these old good-ol-boys will be dead and out of office and there will be some more rational people making and enforcing our laws."

I'm still waiting.

That's the odd thing about how we gauge how many weeks a woman is pregnant. When couples go through in vitro fertilization a woman is actually considered two weeks pregnant on the day the put back the blastocyst even if it doesn't take hold. Those first two weeks are a given since there's not a great way for doctors to pinpoint exact dates.

It definitely throws a wrench into things when trying to draft legislation that interferes with women's healthcare. Just goes to show you how little those bastards actually think about what they have written for them.

Gotta love how none of these laws ever discuss increasing funding and options for adoption.

i.e. You're only a worthwhile political point while you're in the womb. As soon as you're out they don't give a shit.

They don't give a shit until you are old enough to be sent off and killed in their wars.

That's not true, Rob. Once their born they're part of the welfare system and by default, a democratic voter. Their job is done.

both of these are almost direct quotes from George Carlin, circa 25 years ago ...

George also made the observation that under the "Life begins at fertilization" stance,
women who menstruate & flush out fertilized eggs would be mass murderers ....

and, fuck me if this ain't a personal conundrum, but ain't this Georgia law in
direct violation of Roe v. Wade? so it's all just a Publicity Stunt ....

Someone needs to sponsor a fecal pain bill - and when they inevitably parrot that woolly liberal mainstream nonsense that long brown bum babies can't feel pain at 20 hours, I'm sure with minds like these we can come up with a factually dubious report showing otherwise.

The actual name for this bill WAS the Fecal Pain Bill.

So considering that status/joke from G. Takkei about republican women and their kitchen, is that bill a republican or democrat thing then ? Or both ?

Thank God this bill was passed. My hope and sincere prayer is that a bill similar to this can be passed in Michigan, and in every state in the Union.

Uh, I DO NOT want anything to do with abortion to go in front of this supreme court as it is now. I have no faith in those bastards. Hopefully lower courts striking them down would be enough. But I don't have faith in that either.
