Freak, I hate to do this, I love you like a son (not one of my real, actual sons, of course, but a fictional "Leave it to Beaver"-era son)
but Imma just give the fuck up .... you ain't listened to anything I've ever said to you in this forum, or else the over-all point ain't never sunk in ...

I saw this story bounced all over the net, by the TeaBaggers & NeoCons & anti-Democrats & That-Nigger-President Haters &etc,
and nobody seemed to think that the FOURTEEN other similar and/or identical lawsuits from all over the republic that were DISMISSED
by Federal Judges was a "story" ....

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president who also smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.

What the hell could possibly go wrong???

I can understand your objection to this aspect of it.

Well, yes, very clever, but not relevant to this particular plan. All that would be true no matter *what* health care proposal was put up, even one that attempts to fix the current system.

(Unless you're proposing that nothing be done because everyone involved is either lazy, incompetent, or a hypocrite, in which case, I disagree that nothing should be done. But I don't think you're saying that).

Our government is not run by the Harkonnens or the Corrinos. Regulated health care is not going to kill off all the Republicans, Conservatives, or Libertarians. If we had Nazis or Fascists running the government, the Constitution and all the checks and balances would be done away with or smashed. Any claim which believes this has already happened is an overreaction, especially considering that worse policies have been made by politicians in other parties before. Tax cuts for the rich will not create jobs, save debt, or help common Americans save money, and is more rather like the Harkonnens cutting their share of the Spice, and giving the rest of the Empire inconsistent deliveries. The higher opponents of health care are more concerned with their stock holds of spice rather than for the well-being of their people. The Democratic government's only fault is that it has compromised too much; the Right-wing opponents of the present government never compromise, and come across as more arrogant than practical. It's all good to believe through the philosophy of Herbert to distrust systems that may be flawed, but its possible to distrust the wrong things for the wrong reasons, and to become water fat from pride and self-satisfaction.
'...all those who took part in the rise and fall of the Dune project learned how to fall one and one thousand times with savage obstinacy until learning how to stand. I remember my old father who, while dying happy, said to me: "My son, in my life, I triumphed because I learned how to fail."' -Alejandro Jodorowsky

Kings Fund: Waiting times in England at three-year high

By Branwen Jeffreys
Health correspondent, BBC News

Hospital waiting times in England are at their longest for three years, an independent health think tank says.

The Kings Fund says statistics for February show 15% of patients waited over 18 weeks for treatment, the longest time since April 2008.

It argues the shift is due to the financial pressures on the NHS.

But the government says these figures included some patients who delayed their own treatment and insists the real figure is 10.2%.

In the NHS in England, waiting for hospital treatment is measured from the date when a GP writes a letter asking for their patient to be seen until that treatment is started.

The whole process is not meant to take more than 18 weeks, the limit for waiting promised to patients in the NHS constitution.

The government says it is no longer "performance managing" that 18-week time although the health service still collects all the data.

Kings Fund chief economist Professor John Appleby said the health service was now operating in a different climate.

"In the past the two things that kept waiting down were targets and extra money. Managers got sacked for not meeting targets. And of course in the future there won't be the same amount of extra money."

The official waiting figures are only part of the picture. As the BBC recently found, some parts of the NHS in England have introduced new restrictions on treatment or put routine operations on hold for several months. None of this appears in the statistics as it occurs before the clock starts.

The analysis by the Kings Fund also found that despite financial pressures in the NHS, cases of both Clostridium difficile (C diff) and MRSA have continued to fall. The decline in these hospital infections has been under way for a number of years.

Financial pressures
David Flory, the deputy chief executive of the NHS in England, said the health service was continuing to perform well despite the financial pressures.

"People with cancer symptoms continue to see a specialist quickly, MRSA and C difficile rates are at their lowest level since records began, and the NHS has achieved a healthy financial surplus in line with its plans."

Nigel Edwards, of the NHS confederation, said the relaxation of targets had given hospitals greater freedom to make decisions on clinical needs, but warned that waiting times could not slip too far.

"We need to ensure that if they are being taken away or reduced in importance, there are still mechanisms to ensure that patients can expect treatment to be timely and not subject to unnecessary delay."

Shadow Health Secretary John Healey said it would add to concerns that the health service was slipping backwards.

"Front-line staff and managers are massively distracted by David Cameron's top down reorganisation of the health service, and the signs of strain are now there for all to see."
I can't wait!

Georgia Becomes First State to Sign Anti-Obamacare Health Care Compact Into Law …Update: Idaho Gov. Signs Order Banning Obamacare

Posted by Jim Hoft on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 3:04 PM

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed the health care compact into law today. The law restores authority and responsibility for health care regulation to member states. The law allows Georgia to create their own health care policies by joining an interstate compact that supersedes prior federal law (Obamacare).

Today the Health Care Compact, an agreement between participating states that restores authority and responsibility for health care regulation to member states, was signed into law by Georgia’s Governor, Nathan Deal. The compact allows Georgia to create their own health care policies by joining an interstate compact that supersedes prior federal law. Georgia is the first state to sign the compact into law.

Health Care Compact Alliance Chairman Eric O’Keefe released the following statement:

“Today, Georgia’s Governor Deal joined the Georgia legislature in taking a bold step to give the people of Georgia control of their health care future. By acting to move authority and responsibility for health care from Washington, D.C. to Georgia, Governor Deal will help to trigger a robust conversation among citizens and their local representatives about sustainable reforms that meet the needs of all Georgians.
Georgia’s leaders have acted to escape the mandates handed down from a centralized bureaucracy in Washington which threatens to bankrupt the country while rationing health care.
The Health Care Compact Alliance congratulates Governor Nathan Deal as well as all of the sponsoring legislators. With their leadership and determination, Georgia will lead the country toward a brighter future in which patients – not bureaucrats — determine their care”

UPDATE: Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter signed an executive order on Wednesday that prohibits receiving federal funding for or otherwise implementing the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Targets that meant urgent operations were put off so that minor ones could be done more quickly to bring the overall average down, and money based on cheap debt.

Behind every statistic is a policy announcement, here we have an government who is desperate to prove the NHS as broken so they can "fix" it, an opposition just as desperate to prove the government is cocking it up horrendously and a news media that sells more units when things are going badly.

Somewhere the statistic that satisfaction with our healthcare system is at a record high has been lost... :?

I'm really starting to loathe Federal Politics (again - it's a tidal interest ... it comes & goes)

but, in my traditional role as our Naib's anti-Mentor, I'm compelled to point out
that the above quote story, despite it's tone, is not describing any kind of amazing,
revolutionary policy maneuver; the "interstate-compact" clause is routinely used
to comply with all sorts of Federal Mandates on many different issues, and is always
included in the Federal Mandate's Law, Regulation, Guideline, or whatever they are calling
it this week .... there is always an option for individual states to work out agreements
between themselves to comply; the Federals encourage this, it saves them budget-money,
and it's almost rational .... it can be "abused" all to hell to, as in the case of EPA Regulations,
where an industrial state can enter into a compact with an agricultural state and trade
"emission credits", allowing the first state to release more pollution into the air & water
than EPA Regs would allow (but this can't really be called "abuse", either, because the EPA
and the other Fed Agencies and the Congress set up the system that way - they can pass
"tougher" standards on "pollution" for political purposes, while the actual level of emissions,
(and production) stay the same ...)

the reporting of this "story" is seriously skewed, but that may be expected, too - the source
is a right-leaning (tilting?)(tipping-over?) blahg ... the main disingenuous statement is the
repeated "restores authority and responsibility for health care regulation to member states";
not a real accurate description of what took place, but ... what the fuck, you know ?

the boiled-down Federal Healthcare Whatchamacallit is no different from all the other
Federal Whatchamacallits in structure & execution ...

A) Federal Government says do THIS.

B) If the states can accomplish THIS on their own, or in conjunction with each other,
proceed to BUDGET KICKBACK PHASE and/or ALTERNATE FUNDING

C) If the states cannot accomplish THIS on their own, or in conjunction with each other,
each state will begin to fill out the 4.5 million pages of forms (attached below) to begin
the FUNDING PROCESS, followed by AUDITING and COMPLIANCE HEARINGS, to be
repeated until THIS is accomplished, judged unconstitutional by the Court, amended
by Legislation, rescinded by Legislation, superseded by Legislation, amended, rescinded,
or superseded by Executive Order, and/or forgotten and ignored by all involved ...

so all I'm saying is that the above "article" is a political set-piece twisting everyday, mundane
bureaucratic bullshit into party propaganda for the upcoming Federal Election, which is actually
what 95% of all "policy reporting" is, from all sides on all media outlets ...

and also, it is official: the politician I was forced to "support", because the Other Guy was "anti-union",
did in fact trade 50% of the IBEW's Health Insurance to independently wealthy Republicans ....

Driving without auto insurance will get you arrested and thrown in the county jail.

I think it's actually a bigger fine than driving on a suspended license.

I cannot think of any jurisdiction that will throw you in jail for not having insurance, unless it's a pretext to get you on something else (or maybe if you live in the South ;) ). In most states it's what's called a "fixit-ticket." You get a ticket if you are caught without "proof of finanical responsibility," or having a valid insurance card, but can get the violation dismissed by presenting valid proof of insurance later to the cop or to a judge at your hearing. In some states, such as California and Oregon, if you are hurt in an accident that is not your fault by someone else, and you have not bothered to get insurance, then the most you can collect from the person who hurt you is the value of your medical damages; IOW, no pain and suffering/general damages. It's take pretty serioiusly here.
