Some of you may have read where I was whining about problems paying my mortgage in the auto maintenance topic.

Well, I called my bank last night and they said I may be eligible for President Obama's "Making Home Affordable" plan: http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This would reduce my payments to 31% of my income, which would be much more affordable than the 50-60% I'm paying now.

Well, considering my original lender lied to me about my payments and put off closing until after we sold our mobile home, I consider it justice.

so you're saying the government interferring with the banks for the
welfare of the public is a good thing ?

Most of the time the only way they'll modify a loan is if it was thru Freddie or Fannie. And sometimes they'll tell you they'll drop your interest rate from, say, 6% to 3.5%.... but that 2.5% you're getting out of? Guess what? It's being tacked on to the principal on the backend. Same fucked up tactics the banks did to get us all into this mess.

Taking ANY kind of money from the government should NEVER be a question. You should do it automatically. They do nothing but take money from you for your entire life and you have no choice in the matter. If they are stupid enough to give money back to you, in whatever form, it should be taken without hesitation. Money is always better managed in your hands than in those of the government.

As for me taking government assistance (mediation)... do y'all really think I'd even bring it up here if I wasn't at peace with it?

I work hard and pay my taxes, why shouldn't I take advantage of whatever assistance I can? I'm paying for it. It's the deadbeats that feel it's the duty of the government to take care of them that I have a problem with.

Looking back, I had to do what I did to get my family out of that trailer park and into a decent house for the sake of my mariage and children. My father-in-law had bought my wife that trailer after she got divorced. I payed him for it, I couldn't stand to live with that over my head. We are not white trash and do not deserve to live like that.

I was ready to block the channel on my TV entirely until The Universe started. I think that's a History Channel show. It's fantastic. I think the new season starts next week. I can't believe how long this thread took us to get off-topic.
