Yep, it's like happiness doesn't sell in the media...even less when a soldier is actually happy to do his,her job and brings it to other people...

Okay, I'm gonna be the bad guy. I have no reason to believe that those pictures aren't authentic, but to me they strike me as a little too cute and too heartwarming. They seem like they're EXACTLY the kind of pictures the Cons wants the Libs to see. Or put it this way, weather they're real or posed (and again, I have no reason to believe they're posed), they're the kind of pics the liberal media will think are fakes.

Good pics, we actually see a lot of stuff like that up here in the news, is it all doom and gloom down there? I know there's a crazy abundance of rightwing nonsense like FOX in the US, I would imagine there's a lot of leftwing nonsense stations/papers too? I've heard people mention the left wing media often, but I've never actually seen it myself, other than maybe the CBC, which is perhaps a degree or two left of center at times.

That's sad if they don't show the positive stuff in the news in the US, it's good to remind people why our troops matter.

agreed... I think in Canada the media is more balanced than in the south, though some bias obviously still exists. I think it's because in the US the news is seen more as a source of entertainment, than information.

That seems so true. If it does 'grab their attention" or have "shock" value it doesn't seem to get reported. It's all about the ratings it seems at times.

The US media hasn't been reporting the news for years now. Rather, they either ARE the news, or they spin the popular perceptions in order to maximize viewers. And as outrageous as FOX is, the rest of the TV media definitely leans left of center, so EVERYBODY picks on FOX. Granted FOX doesn't do anything to help themselves, but I'd hardly call CNN, CBS, ABC or NBC "impartial". Add NPR in there as well.

Fox News and talk radio are the ONLY right wing media outlets. The rest is the Obama PR department.

As for media bias, I think an unbiased media is like a unicorn; neither exists. Only thing we can do is mitigate the amount of bias we're exposed to and try reading between the lines. We've been spun by the media as far back as I can recall reading/watching the news, so I'm not sure if things have become worse or I've merely become much more aware of it.
