Actually, there are situations where depending on the value of the land vs the house and the interest rates that you actually can save more money renting than buying. That said, 99 times out of 100 you're correct.
You may be making a lower payment but none of that is going toward equity in the property.

So you actually are making money paying the more expensive house payments since you will one day own it.
That's not quite what I'm talking about, but I don't have enough knowledge to explain myself properly - this is something my dad's explained to me once or twice. There are situations where the money you're putting towards your house will be totally lost and you can make way more money by not buying the property, it's not about the money saved in monthly payments but I don't know how to state it properly. If I have it explained to me again soon I'll come back and post it! Typically though I agree with you.

No, rent property instead of buying to save on the monthly payments. Probably saves a lot on mantenance, too.

I tried to post the cartoon yesterday with the little "on strike" smileys,
but fucking SandChigger changed the image to "KJA is a talentless hack"
when Fantapussy was linking to them Over There, and I couldn't find
another one.

Goddamn, I love me some Al Sharpton. What kinda twisted mind could
make that cartoon racial ? Rev. Al ! Mobilized his zombies and made
whitey nervous again. Dude's got big ol' buffalo balls, and you gotta
respect that, even if he is a total idiot.

Definitely an overreaction from people on that one... But then again, considering Ruport Murduch's ownership of the Post, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a deliberate racial undertone.

As opposed to not being accused of racism for dissagreeing with the past 43 white presidents.

Well no one's going to call you racist just for disagreeing. And if they do, it's the accusers who are racist for assuming that's the issue. It's slips like comparing the prez to a monkey which will piss people off... Which is kinda lame considering no one raised a similar fuss about videos like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qVS4hUkiyk

I guess there's a stigma about comparing blacks to monkeys, but making such a huge deal over it certainly doesn't help.

Exactly, but try to tell an angry Al Sharpton that. As a group, black people are more racist than the white people I know.

(Can't see Youtube at work, enazis...) But Obama didn't write the bill, Congress did, I believe. If you ask me, monkeys could do a better job than either.

Even Bill Clinton is telling Obama to stop his econonmy doom and gloom:

http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-po ... a.Economy/

It will be tough for him to talk out of both sides of his mouth like that.

In one breath he has to tell the public we're all gonna die so they will buy into his massive, pork barrel, "Death of Capitolism Bill" then turn around and say everything is going to be fine so Wall Street won't take a dive.

But what Bill might not understand that Obama does, is that he plans to go a trillion dollars in debt every year "as far as the eye can see".

It's easy to make the doom prophecy come true when you are the doom bringer.

I can't say I've ever gotten an impression of doom from his talks about the economy. Maybe it only seems gloomy for those who favour the capitalist status quo. He seems to emphasize working together a lot, how everyone has to help out, etc...

You mean the people who actually work?

He said the recession has left the nation so weak that only the federal government can "jolt our economy back to life." And he declared that failure to act swiftly and boldly "could turn a crisis into a catastrophe."

"The party now is over," he said.
(For Republicans I guess, since he just bankrolled his party.)

Oh, I think the "party is over" comment refers to lenders and CEOs and such.

Yeah right, they'll just go party overseas where people are willing to pay them more.

What I was talking about is how he has been saying things are terrible and going to get worse if we didn't pass his stimulus bill.

Now, to calm people down, he'll have to blow smoke up their asses.

Just when I was thinking that, along comes Vladimir Putin...

Putin Warns US About Socialism

Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”.

“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,” Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.”

Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.”

Putin also cautioned the US against using military Keynesianism to lift its economy out of recession, saying, “in the longer run, militarization won’t solve the problem but will rather quell it temporarily. What it will do is squeeze huge financial and other resources from the economy instead of finding better and wiser uses for them.” Putin’s comments come in sharp contrast to Russia’s own military buildup and expansion.

Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, “we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and ‘bad’ assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would ‘conserve’ and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.”

“The time for enlightenment has come. We must calmly, and without gloating, assess the root causes of this situation and try to peek into the future.”

Basically the USA has to start making stuff and selling it to people again.
Brian Herbert is a perfect example of why you shouldn't leave a universe-spanning empire to your next of kin.

Well I agree with Mr. Putin.

This guy's just paraphrasing what I said forever ago. Let the failed companies die! It will be most certainly painful (Jobwise, etc) but it will also be cleansing in many ways.

And look at that, friendly advice from one superpower to another! This statement from Putin is a gesture of blatant empathy. Twenty years ago, the only talk was a silent "Watch it, or we'll blast you into the fucking stone age!" whereas now we have a demonstration of genuine concern for the US's well-being. I think that's a good sign, and that it's also damned-good advice.
