That would be VERY interesting.

I was a friend of Frank.
From him I learned that knowledge is never wasted & to look for the wheels within wheels.
He showed me that there are lessons that can be learned that cannot be taught.
I think I am a better person for having read his books.
Thank you Frank Herbert.
Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

Frank Herbert died 25 years ago today. In observance of our second board holiday...

I was a friend of Frank, whenever I thought I knew all the answers, he lovingly shattered my misconceptions. I never met the man, yet I miss him.
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

I was a friend of Frank...
Frank taught me the Universe is more than what we can perceive, that we are trapped in our misconceptions of it and because of that we will never see it in all its grandeur.
Frank taught me the beauty and perversion of politics.
Frank taught me it is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible.
Frank taught me to scan for the true human beings.
Frank taught me ecology.
For all these reasons and many more, I'm a friend of Frank

The Golden Elixer will vanish from Dune, yet Muad'dib's seed goes on, and his water moves our universe.
Leto, but it applies to our beloved Frank Herbert

I was a friend of Frank...

He showed me that the imagination seeded by a single line of prose has no limits.
He taught me the power of both idealism and cynicism.
Though I never knew him, he inspires me every day.

I was a friend of Frank Herbert
and he taught me that I am not a freak, despite my learning/social disabilities and my different means of percieving the world. He also taught me that persons with different perceptions and abilities can be more dedicated than normal people. The last thing he taught me was that special persons in the role of leadership may suffer more than leaders with normal perceptive abilities because the upcoming tide of ravaging world politics may overwhelmingly stress the perceptive abilities of the different leader. Labeled freaks should accept who they are, but must be wary of the thousand pitfalls of dangerous power.

Bai-la Kaifa
'...all those who took part in the rise and fall of the Dune project learned how to fall one and one thousand times with savage obstinacy until learning how to stand. I remember my old father who, while dying happy, said to me: "My son, in my life, I triumphed because I learned how to fail."' -Alejandro Jodorowsky

We should come up with a few holidays and observe them as a group yearly. FH's birthday and death anniversary are obvious choices. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Yeah let's all form a death cult. Na, but seriously, what was the original publication date of Dune?

Hmmm. Maybe I've been living with a Filipino too long, but death anniversary celebrations no longer seem creepy to me.

Frank's Birth & Death, obviously ...

either the publication date of the Chilton Dune OR the first publication date of the story in Analog ...
one or the other, I'd say ... and that would be it ... over-saturating your anniversary calendar devalues
each individual date ...

Beverly's death-date as a day of general mourning .... symbolizing the general Loss of Dune ....

that "Tau-day" thing ... June 28th ? 6/28 ?

optionals:

birthdate of Jacurutu ... or come up with something that could be called the Birth of the OH ...

a "remembrance" day for the Mass Bannings from the the Official Corporate Dune Forum ?
"they denied us our Posts !" .... &etc ...

I'd get behind an "Orthodox Herbertarian" Calendar, listing all the important historical dates in the
Literary History of Frank Herbert and the OH movement .... but I would be extremely picky in putting
my vote behind actual "OH Holidays" (Holy Days) .... (and yes, this whole thing is a fucking Death-Cult, and
there is nothing wrong with that ...)

I personally feel that this message board, Jacurutu, is full of hateful folks who don't know
how to fully interact with people.

I agree.

Me neither. Oh, and I'm not gonna be wishing a happy birthday upon a dead man.

The only point of contention here is weather we honour the creation or the creator, I think I know which Frank would opt for.

NOT forming a death cult would be in accordance with the wishes of our charismatic leader and in accordance with the themes in his published work we should NOT blindly follow his wishes.

The logic is flawless, I don't think we have any choice BUT to form a DC.

Maybe we could trace his birthday back to his conception date when Eileen got slammed by Frank Sr.

The Japanese do it, too. At least the Buddhist ones. It's considerably less weird and disturbing than pouring soy sauce on a mostly decapitated squid to reanimate it before consumption, to be sure. ;)

The "Happy Birthday [Insert Dead Person's Name]" thing is a just unthinking crassness, though. :hand: :snooty:
