I have to say this is tempting despite the steep price. Starts shipping at the end of September.

I regretted missing the sale of a special copy of 'Little Big.'
This is a hansom set, no doubt.
Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

Hmm, I have the first volume, didn't know they published the rest of the series too. Do the others also come with illustrations? If so, by whom?

$110 per volume is way above the budget I am willing to pay for it.

They look nice but I would like to have seen some better art on the cover than line drawings of the paperback paintings.

Nice. I used to collect Eastons. I'd wait a while and pick them up on the resale market. You can usually get any easton you want for $40-$60 on eBay after they have been out for a while. I have a local book store that has dozens of them for as low as $20.

Keep in mind also that all those royalties are going to the bloodsucking heirs.

That is how they do almost all of their covers: gold leaf.

I'm going to wait and see if they pop up on ebay, none of the used bookstores in the Rogue Valley deal in Easton books so I'm not likely to find them local at a reasonable price. Biblio can be a crap shoot, and forget the Amazon Marketplace.

the price per book seems ridiculous since they appear to be comparable in size to the Lord of the Rings series or a Reader's Choice book. Seems like they should be around 65.00 - 70.00 per book, in my opinion

It will take a while, I am pretty sure. But I was thinking about this last night and talking to my wife about it. Now, for some on this website I realize that you may feel differently, but do I really need a leather bound copy of Heretics or Chapterhouse? Mmmmmmmm; might be nice. but I think I could live with Dune (which I have) and GEoD, and maybe Children.

During some Googling, I stumbled upon this little note. I'm not sure if the confirmation means they're going to publish all Frank Herbert's Dune books, or just the first three(*), but the Folio Society seems to be a publisher very similar to Easton Press.

(*) Or, Guldur forbid, there will be a gold stamped, leatherbound edition of House Corrino.

Could be. FS books look better (to me), so I think I'm going to wait and see.

John Schoenherr's cover art (I think ... ) doesn't translate very well to gold foil. And still no information whether parts 2-6 are illustrated, and, if so, by whom. Are they trying to sell these things to readers, or just to people who want to have impressive-looking books on their living room shelves?

I just opened mine a couple of days ago and 2-6 are not illustrated.
Easton definitely price gouged on this set.

I had no idea about this... Serves me right for not checking in more often...
              Glad I found this post.

              http://www.ebay.com/itm/Easton-Press-Fr ... 51c650f30a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
              850 seems a bit much.

the 2-6 volume not being illustrated does kind of hurt. Is Dune in this new set the same as the individual easton press one that has been out for a very long time?

Is the Stand alone Easton Press Dune Book worth more?

Omphalos, I have searched for two years all of the local used book dealers here in Kansas City and surrounding area. The number is down to 7... 4 of them being Half price book stores. I haven't seen an Easton Press Dune.

I asked and most the time the store workers buy them up.

If you know of decent copy versions 20-30 bucks... that would be cool to just have one. No big deal, but if you do, Be appreciative to work something out to get one in my collection.

The above set I think I would get to have but to leave in plastic.. or maybe two sets a reader and a show.

but at 110 bucks a piece, with 2-6 having no illustration... hmmm little pricey.

A leatherbound Dune Encyclopedia.... and a Leatherbounce Illustrated Dune that would be a handy collection to me.
"Long Live the Fighters", "Dragon.....the other white meat."

Dune is exactly the same as the previous versions, only $40 more. Just watch ebay and you can usually find one for about $50 if you are patient.

The 6 book set was just released in October, so I imagine thry will be in print and available direct from EP for a while.

If you ever get the 6 book set, I do not recommend leaving the plastic on it. I, as well as several other book collectors that I know, have had issues in the past with the plastic getting old and damaging the foil stamping on covers like these.
Plastic wrap is cheap, low grade plastic and leaving it in direct contact with an expensive archival book can be counter productive.

I added more photos of the set to collections thread in the Other Books by Frank section of this site.

That's too bad. FWIW I have four bookstores around here that regularly have piles of them, from Reno to SF to Sacramento to the Bay Area. Maybe you talk to the owner and give him a list?

Saw this on io9 a couple days ago. Definitely looks to be the superior edition, although still expensive for just one title.
