The stamp of strangeness

Post by lotek »

Everybody must remember that scene (especially now Simon beautifully illustrated it :) ).
I always thought of it as a cool expression that meant nothing and everything, but I'm beginning to wonder now.

I found this in Google books, I don't have time right now to investigate, maybe someone can enlighten me?

Here's what I'm on about.

(I'm not sure about the date though, I found a hard cover mentionned as 1966)

It reads like something out of Dune now doesn't it?

I can't find a quote at the moment but I think it might come from the Bible.

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

I did some Googling myself, and I found this
elle a engendre toutes les autres. Il a marque son travail du cachet d'un etrangete ...
'stamp of a strangeness' ... Claims to be from 1834 ...

Edit: Of course, if I still spoke French, I'd have tried "cachet d'etrangete" sooner--gives just as many hits as the English term, but I'm unable to determine if there are any sources significantly older than the twentieth century.
