Chairdogs

Post by JimmytheT »

So I am only 100 pages through Heretics on my second readthrough of the series. Though they are not important to the overall storyline in anyway, this entry marks the introduction of the "chairdog".

I guess they have minor importance to Teg's character development (apparently he prefers traditional chairs as he does not feel right about using animals in this way).

This digression aside, what the hell would be the advantages of genetically modifying an animal so that its best us is as piece of furniture? I guess they could follow you around the house or office.

What would they look like? Is there any conceptual art by anyone? Who produces these chairdogs? Ixians, BT, other?

The BT produce them. They're just chairs, that form to a person's shape. I always thought they were kinda icky too.

Chairdos are just a futuristic embellishment by Herbert. They appear in other non-Dune stories he wrote as well.

I'm against the whole idea.
I really try not to think about it.
...at all.

Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

I sometimes wonder if all those stories exist in the same universe. It's been a while since I read the saboteur books. They're the only ones that I would really have a problem with. I also wonder how the chairdogs came to be.

I don't think the chair dogs are sentient. They seem cool, tell your furniture to move around instead of moving it yourself. It conforms to your body and any position. Nanotech of some kind would seem more useful, could tell it to form into anything you want where ever ya want.

Come on man, if you could speak 'the language of god' you could come up with something more interesting than that.

What about face dancers ?

Also, why do castors have a flat tail ?

Yeah! I was like, "What the hell is a 'castor'?" Thank you Google for the answer, and also for leading me to story of Castor and Pollux. Was that a proper use of quotation marks? I just don't want to look that up.
