Duncan as a figure skater? You must have Elvis Stojko on the mind.

I picture Duncan as a truck driver on rollerblades, swinging a morning star at feral kittens.

Edited to add:
Nekhrun wrote: I like to picture Duncan as a figure skater. He wears like a white outfit, and he does interpretive ice dances of my life's journey.
Ah, nice one, Nekhrun. I had this movie in mind when I posted; didn't realize you'd quoted it directly. The outtakes at the end were just hilarious.

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

Yes, simply brilliant. Almost as astounding as that guy on Twitter who was suggesting to Chris Pine that he play Paul. :P

Actually, I'd like to see this guy in some role:

He's a fantastic up-and-coming actor! Recognize him?

:hand: I never banged his anything! I never went near it; he was already in San Francisco before I was even back in the States! :naughty: :snooty:

Edit:

You know, I just noticed what the title of this thread really says.

"Is [Duncan of Asia(n)] decent?"

"Yes, he's quite decent. Unless he drinks too much spice beer.... In which case he gets rowdy and a bit too touchy-feely for my liking!" :P

I like to picture Duncan Idaho with, like, big eagle's wings,
singing lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with, like, an angel band,
and I'm in the front row ....

I blame the 2000/2003 Syfy miniseries for that....casting a relatively light-haired actor ruined modern perception of what Paul and Duke Leto are supposed to look like. Yes, Paul's part Harkonnen....but it doesn't need to be so obvious in his appearance (somewhat reddish hair). Having his father be downright blond, simply because they got a remotely famous actor to take the part, was just lame. I thought William Hurt did a passable job as the Duke, but only that. A more suitable actor of his caliber could have really nailed it.

Casting is a bitch, there's no doubt about that. But upholding higher standards is what FH was all about, and from the day that the deals for the original Dune film were signed....everything went to shit. That's not exactly FH's fault, but now that the rest of us can see clearly how Hollywood and the TV industry crush the soul out of even the best stories....how can any self-respecting storyteller submit their blood-sweat-and-tears to be butchered by these jackasses?

As a kid I wanted to make movies or TV shows. Maybe do some comic books or novels on the side. Fuck all that (except maybe the comic books/graphic novels). I worked in the TV industry as a teenager, and it scared me shitless. That's what inspired me to put all this work over the years, and what severely limited abilities I now have left in the midst of my illness, into fleshing out the concept of a web series that isn't a dictatorship but rather a collaboration with the fans. With the express notion established from the outset that if I ever kick the bucket, it won't be the sole right of my heirs to pick up the torch and suck it dry financially (though I do like the idea of my son contributing to the series someday). It will belong to whatever fans I might be fortunate enough to have, and it's entirely up to them what they might do with it from there.

I suspect that, if he could have foreseen all this....that FH would feel pretty much the same.

That's HILARIOUS, Mandy! ... Now, ... when I "picture" Duncan, and I'm not sure exactly why, maybe it's his "cave-sitter eyes", I see Hayden Christensen. In the years before that, I always pictured him as a young Russell Crowe. And now? there's NO ONE in the world that I can see as Gurney other than Jason Statham. NO ONE. It refuses to leave my head. Now him I'd love to see in assless chaps (I don't want to see him in a stetson, though. I really adore a bald man. Especially him. LOL

Okay, where does everyone keep getting the idea that the Harkonnens were gingers? Besides the movie and mini-series... Where in Dune does it say that the Baron, Feyd, or Rabban have red hair? If I recall correctly, it was the Corrinos that had the red hair, or at least Shaddam did. Seriously, someone please tell me if I'm wrong on this.

Really? Isn't Jason Statham generally considered to be good-looking in a kind of rugged way? That doesn't exactly scream "ugly lump of a man" to me. My vote still goes toward John C. Rielly for Gurney. I loved his work as a character actor way before he ever got into all these comedy movies.

But anyway, on topic... How's this for an Asian Duncan?

Jessica stared at her son, seeing the oval shape of face so like her own.
But the hair was the Duke's--coal-colored and tousled.

..

At the Baron's elbow walked Feyd-Rautha. His dark hair was dressed in close
ringlets that seemed incongruously gay above sullen eyes.

...

The Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV led his people into the hall. His burseg
helmet had been lost and the red hair stood out in disarray.
