The scenes with Leto and Ghani in the miniseries also gave me a funny tingle in my nethers, which is precisely WHY it gave me the creeps. Remember, these characters are 10 year old twins!!!

They're thousands of years old each. They clearly have the maturity for sexual relations.

Ah this is the mistake that they themselves tell others not to make, do not assume that they are simply children, they have OM that goes back thousands of years in human history. They are probably more wise and mature than anyone in human existance, so if you keep this in mind then it is not that creepy.

Okay Okay, i'll give them the "thousands of years old" thing, but they're still twin brother and sister.

Wait, wait, wait ... just to be clear, the original thought about all of this nethers-tingling concerned the actors playing the roles in the SF mini-series. Said thespians are clearly far beyond 10 years old.

Speaking for myself, I might have some issues — for instance, I often dream of being the special sauce in a Jessica Brooks, Julie Cox, Barbora Kodetová, and Daniela Amavia sandwich — but those issues do not involve children.

As far as the Paul/Alia incest thing, the Baron possessing Alia probably would have been down. What a beautiful boy" Unless Paul was too old for his tastes? In the theoretical case it would be incest to the tune of Brother/Sister/Grandfather ...eww.

Paul, however, was so true to Chani that I think even if she'd died childless, he'd never have had any relations with Alia, Irulan, or any new character. He'd have left the throne to Alia or any progeny she'd have had by Hayt. As the preacher it gives us the idea he was sexually inactive for the last decade of his life, but if he had been do you think he had BG like powers enough to control fertility in some way?

Possibly. Sperm are produced long into the male lifetime, there might be some way he could chemically render them impotent.

I'm thinking (yes, it happens to me, sometimes...) : don't you think that Alia's possession is a vision of what might have been a child issued from Alia and Feyd-Rautha? I mean, Alia's possession by the Baron is a kind/parallel of union between an Atreides girl and a Harkonnen boy (especially cause the Baron educated Feyd).
This disastrous Union (i.e. Abomination) may present what the expected KH would have been: a freak or something monstruous... We know the KH would have been the child of Alia (or a "normal" Atreides' girl) and Feyd. But Feyd is a sadistic, egocentric, aso... he's deviant. So, what his child 'd look like?

Only if educated by Feyd, I think. Remember what the Fenrings said about him; its a shame he wasn't brought up in the same conditions as Paul. His child would not be destined to have a Baron-like persona.

Don't forget that there would also no doubt have been intensive training and controlled exposure to the spice, etc. The child most certainly would not have been born an Abomination.

Hmmmm... I never got the sense that there was even a remote chance of Alia and Paul getting it on, I thought it was more the pure and true brotherly/Sisterly love they shared. Mainly because Paul was so far down the road with Chani and so remote from Alia for the majority of the the time (War with Harkonens on Dune, the Jihad, Conspiracy, etc).

Leto and Ghani on the surface would have been incest, but the battle with inner voices, ability to act out others lives and experiences, mature beyond their years, kind of hard to see it that way. I saw it more as just a deep love for one another, based on what they shared, that only Paul and Alia could understand.

Paul having the fertility control ability.. He was getting Bene Gesserit training from his mother on Caladan, Prana Bindu, the voice, etc. I dont see it, as there had never been a male bene gesserit to that point, and after he took the water of life and became the Kwisatz Haderach, he didnt get any more training, and firmly stood apart from them, taunting them with his ability over them to be in many places at once. He could have figured it out on his own for sure, but in line with the story, didnt seem necessary.

I am reading Dune Messiah right now, so I just thought I'd share a few things I noticed, regarding this thread:

When Alia is training naked, and accordingly to Stilgar is more or less "in heat", this is just after Mohiam has been talking to Irulan about arranging opportunities for them to get together - to preserve the bloodline.

And several times, Alia cannot see her the father of ther fututre children in her vision - which Hayt computes to mean... it must be Paul.

Alia and Paul are also mentioned as the one being, female and male. Cf. both Pauls role as KH, Plato's "original humans", grown together at the back, and Jungs Syzygy-union.

You guys got creepy feelings from James McAvoy and Jessica Brooks? I felt more like they played the opposite in the mini series as it was in the book. In DM, Alia is just in heat (though she still very much hero worships Paul), and it is Leto II and Ghanima who are more closely incestuous in CoD through their parent game, though it doesn't come off any anything that would seriously go that way. In the mini series Daniella Amavia is the one practically dripping when Paul walks into a room. I'm sorry if that's vulgar, but that's how she played it.

When I first saw the fighting naked scene in the mini I felt like it was just Alia acting desperate for attention, and obviously for Paul's approval. She's teasing him. When she finally notices Hayt is there she even gives him a sultry stare. There are incestuous tones from her throughout the movie, but I think it's easily because of just how terrible she is at being a normal girl. Never had a father, mother abandoned her, and now she's what, 15 or something and her body is catching up with her mind. Put that together with the fact that Paul is her brother/Mahdi and she must feel he's the only one who can understand her and so her interactions with him are odd, at worst. At least that's how it came across in the mini series. I didn't get any incestuous vibes at all from Dune Messiah.

I think
Alia is in love with Paul
is a stretch.
