"Hey...why don't we have a convention?!"

"Oh, gee, that'd be great, but we'll have to wait until we get done with this other thing first, you know, that thing that may never really happen anyway, you know how it gets when the lawyers are involved. But it's a really nice idea, just like so many others you guys have come up with, keep it up, OK, we may actually be able to utilize one someday........."

RETHINK THE PROBLEM AND REPHRASE AND REDIRECT THE QUESTION.

Hey, PEOPLE, Dune FANS! Who out there reading this would be interested in holding a DuneCon? Let's hear it.

And if the Herberts/Merritts/Whateveretts want to get pissy about it, just change the name (like in the title of this thread).

SCREW having the first DuneCon be just another promotional tool for their new movie. Or for the newest PoS book squeezed out by The Hacks Twain.

They've shown what they really think of the fans of Dune over the last few years, so why the hell let them dictate when, where, and how any FAN CONVENTION is to be held.

You can take the shit they're dishing out and swallow it whole and smile real big and say, "Oh, thank you for that! Anything Dune is better than nothing! CAN I PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE HAVE ANOTHER?!" Or you can tell them to shove it until they wise up and change their M.O. It's your choice.

I would.

I don't have a lot of faith in this upcomming Dune movie if it does happen, anyway. It'd take a miracle for Hollywood to put out a quality, faithfull rendition.

(Anyone have any experience setting up a conference?)

Sounds fun to me! Besides, what Dune convention would be worth a damn without a Tleilaxu there?

Vegas would be doable. Even though I have lots of cases there and am now sick and tired of that hell hole, I would go there in a minute to meet you guys and talk about Dune.

BTW Tanz, excellent suggestion. I cant believe I missed that either.

Never been to Vegas, but I've got some gambling friends who swear by it. (And at it.)

I'm not partial to place, since from this distance everything looks pretty much the same. ;)

My only constraints are timewise: August-September.

To have the Con in a desert... how extreme. As long as it's state side I'll find a way! 8)

I can be in Vegas in 8 hours. Kansas City would also be good because I could visit my family in Springfield Mo. before or after.

Or we could do it in Springfield where my cousin owns a bar with live music. 8) I'll even put up 100 dollars to start the tab.

Actually, Vegas would be a good idea. Soutewest flies there very cheap, and we could get a deal on a block of rooms for a night or two. Or, we could do it like we did it in high school and just have everyone bring a sleeping bag. We should find out when Southwest Airlines has one of those $39 each way sales (sorry, Chig) and do it then.

Whatcha mean, Omph?

If the timing is right, I'd make it a side excursion during my yearly trip home, is what I was thinking. ;)

Just thought about it a little more: March would be good for me, too.

Can we organize this in two weeks? :P

March not good for me - I've got the UK eastercon in London then. And it looks like I might be going to Germany to a metal festival as well.
