Can anyone read Hungarian?

Post by Omphalos »

I have a few Dune related papers that Dr. Torkos sent me a few years ago that he wrote in his native language. I just found them while I was transferring data from my old computer to the new one. He has never translated them, and I'd like to know what they say.

I think I could give you a rough translation, but I can't guarantee it'll be perfect. Send me a PM or scan and I'll see what I can do.

This one is called "Atreides"

Brian Herbert – Kevin J. Anderson: Az Atreides-ház, Szukits, 2000

DŰNÉK
(Környezettanulmány)

A teremtő tudat óceánjának partján Dűnék sorakoznak.

A hat homokránc mellé újabb Dűne került 1999-ben.

Willis E. McNelly vezetésével elkészítette a A Dűne Enciklopédiát (The Dune Encyclopedia).

Minek tekintsük akkor A Dűne Enciklopédiát?

Brian Herbert – Kevin J. Anderson: A Butleri Dzsihad, Szukits, 2003

„Ne készíts gépezetet az emberi elme hasonlatosságára!”

A DŰNE LEGENDÁI

Frank Herbert 1965-ben megjelent regénye, A Dűne meglepő, a science fiction irodalomban szokatlan berendezkedésű jövőt ábrázolt.

Frank Herbert irodalmi örökösei azonban úgy döntöttek, életre keltik számunkra a Nagy Lázadás történetét. A corrini csata (The Battle of Corrin) című folytatások fogják követni.

Mielőtt hozzálátnál a történethez, szeretném felhívni valamire a figyelmedet, Tisztelt Olvasó.

This one is called "Dune"

Frank Herbert: A Dűne, Szukits, 2003

„Tüdőm beszívja az Idő szelét,
melyben sívó homok szitál…”

Gurney Halleck

A DŰNE FÉL ÉVSZÁZAD TÁVLATÁBÓL

Akárhogy is van, most 2003-at írunk, és A Dűne harmadik magyar kiadása, melyet most a kezedben tartasz, Tisztelt Olvasó, kiváló alkalom arra, hogy közel ötven év távolából tekintsünk vissza a regényre, mellyel Herbert mester letette a science fiction történetének egyik mérföldkövét.

Honnan is indult hát A Dűne?

Frank Herbert irodalmi örököseit követve a Szukits Kiadó is ambiciózus vállalkozásba kezdett.

Ezek a tévedések a regény első két magyar kiadásába is áttevődtek. A jelenlegi magyar kiadás már a javított dátumokat tartalmazza a szövegtörzsben, de az autentikusság megőrzése érdekében Frank Herbert eredeti, hibás évszámait is mindig feltüntetjük lábjegyzetben. (Egyébként a hibák korrekcióit a mester utódai jóváhagyták.)

Végezetül szeretnék néhány szót szólni a kötetben található ínyencfalatról, Brian Herbert és Kevin J. Anderson novellájáról. A Caladan tengereinek suttogása a szerzőpár elsőként megírt Dűne-története, egy aprócska mese, mely nagyjából A Dűne cselekményének első harmadát követően játszódik. A novella beillesztése a regény szövegébe azonban mind etikailag, mind a szerzői jog szempontjából megkérdőjelezhető. A történetet ezért a kötet utolsó oldalain helyeztük el, de ott pontosan megadjuk, hol következne a regény eseményeinek folyamában, és ha kedved tartja, a képzeleteddel „bevághatod” a megfelelő helyre, Barátom.

2001-ben a Szukits Kiadó megjelentette A Dűne messiását, 2002-ben pedig A Dűne gyermekeit. Most szeretettel nyújtjuk át Neked A Dűnét megújult formájában.

RÉGÉSZETI FELTÁRÁS AZ ARRAKISON

Lehet-e új hírekkel szolgálni a Dűne-univerzumról? Mielőtt azonban a kutatók munkájára fordítanánk figyelmünket, érdemes áttekintenünk a Dűne-univerzum azon részét, mely teremtője tollából látott napvilágot.

A negyedik kötet, A Dűne istencsászára (God Emperor of Dune) 1981-ben, az ötödik, A Dűne eretnekei (Heretics of Dune) pedig 1984-ben került a könyvesboltokba.

A szerző halálával univerzuma befejezetlen maradt.

First letter...

The heading reads

Dune
(Living Conditions)

He was creating awareness of the ocean coast dunes lined. This resurgent Pacific breeze blew up between 1965 and 1985 a total of six times, Dunes drawn in the sand, and air movement also, so that even at the fine small wave of water is completely scroll whist. The silence, the rustle of a quartz could only hear it sometimes.
Mirror the open ocean, far in the distance, however, the sharp eyes of some people always wave, which is never entirely dormant breeze rings the surface. And the breeze long dormant recently woke up to a before driving back to the shore. The next six in 1999-was a new Dune. The breeze is still not in the damp ...

This is obviously pretty rough translation, but you can tell its metaphor 'bout Frank starting Dune, etc. KJA and BH continuing it, and in the middle I'm assuming "sharp eyes" are loyal Dune fans who waited...? Onto the next paragraph!!

Okay...

Frank Herbert, after six years of research to see dune during its research stage. With philosophical depths, incredibly complex politics the first volume, Dune is by more than a dozen publishers rejected, until finally in 1965-when it did see the light of a little known company- Chilton Books. (The novel is an early version of the 1963 and 1965 Analog Science Fiction magazine columns that appeared beforehand .) This book does not indicate the arrival of advertising, critics are thoroughly removed. Nevertheless, the appearance of two consecutive years in the bookshops began to show readers how this writer really was.. Slowly, it became apparent that the book was successful. Very successful. The parts in which each of the chapters have already been prepared before the appearance of the first Volume, 1969-in 1976-will be in bookstores in the Dune Messiah (Dune Messiah), and the children of Dune (Children of Dune) title, and readers would be lining up eager to love it. Next, to the story of a sweeping finale. 1981 witnessed the fourth part of the Dune saga (God Emperor of Dune) appearance, and the last two episodes - the heretics Dune (Heretics of Dune) and the Chapter House Dune (Chapterhouse: Dune) - 1984-in 1985-were able to the reader's hands. Volume was more than one writer of the dune drawing pen. Frank Herbert, died unexpectedly in 1986, and for almost fifteen years, fans have been forced to mature in the apparently unfinished series. 1999-present ... but this book is the novel's genesis story of the last pages you'll find, dear reader, but it told me something else.

Has there been since 1983-was that more than forty enthusiastic Dune-friends - one that is not a linguist, sociologist, geology, biology or other science professionals might - focused, and Dr.Willis E. McNelly led prepared the encyclopedia of Dune (The Dune Encyclopedia). This work is run hundreds of pages blessing Frank Herbert was born, and found a systematic evidence base for all the readers, which is the first of four dune novels that have been written.

However, this McNelly - again, only with the approval of Frank Herbert notes the absence of knowledge of the four existing Dune volumes of data and adds to his ideas, and thus reveals a historical, economic, ecological, religious, astronomical and physical background , which the events of Dune novels serve as the basis to. Herbert's existing heroes created history of life-history, the old Imperial dynasty and the Great Houses as well as a number of new players and background born and put together a chronology of events, which is outlined in the encyclopedia, as supplemented by a thorough Dune universe, the timeline includes events taken. This volume was a gigantic undertaking, but only such as a fictional in universe work for fans to devour until the fifth and the sixth Dune novels. Herbert has been rumoured to have been in the ranks of the contributors to the encyclopedia, it is said. Although the work is the existence of the heart, the first of four Dune Volume on information from over "evidence" yet only regarded as an authentic source and not from the data. The Master has reserved the right to the "real" truths continue to tell him. So he did, since neither the Tleilaxu to describe the world of Dune is not immersed in the Encyclopedia, nor the things it does not plot the fifth and sixth novel in the Dune Chronicles after McNelly foreseen the future, and nowhere in the Encyclopedia chronological events either. What is the verdict on the Dune Encyclopedia? Mostly a fan-fiction work, which gained popularity very quickly over time, but the real bona fide historical summary of interest is what it wasn't. It is a work of love and respect one must appreciate, for in fact, new fans are created. And finally, it is an apocryphal writing, details of which only selected cases, and only accept a fact be a very serious criticism, when the pilgrimage to the world of Dune books. This last sentence in the House Atreides (and future installments) is to be considered. While the events are in the Dune Encyclopedia, the life of Paul Muad'Dib previous period, as described in the Encyclopedia are largely invented, it is the new writer Frank Herbert's own volumes, thousands of pages of Dune, note the source may have been used, and the careful consideration to this was done. Frank Herbert novels, therefore, the new original thoughts and intends faithful, and, therefore, virtually everything other than those in the Encyclopedia "not canon". The not knowing is now described in the House Atreides. A number of English-speaking readers scattered around the world are furious at Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's head (wtf?), because they are "different from the Dune Encyclopedia".

We, Hungarians, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) Have not been given the Dune encyclopedia, so our reading of the House Atreides - so - we virgin territory. Thus, the Encyclopedia is not "false documents" to know, after reading a history of the Dune. At the same time, we hope that one will also get into the hands of the English readers of the Dune Encyclopedia, which is now looking for English-speaking Art, and - given that there are no new spending - only available at antique shops peppery traffic.

--I'm gonna take a little break, but so far, Torkos seems okay, although he does consider the nuDune canon, he is treating with less reverence than real Dune. He seems neutral on the DE, or at least the concept or it.

I like Torkos too. Guy seems to be as interested in SF as me, and he likes doing things as a fan that are for everyone. Can't argue with that, AFAIAC.
