A Simple Fanfic and a (Hopefully) Marvelous Idea

Post by Spleefmistress »

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4498936/1/W ... olden_Path

This is my first (and currently only) Dune fanfic. I tried to emulate Frank Herbert by choosing my words carefully and trying to convey a lot of meaning into a short story.

Did you like it? I hope so.

Here's the idea. Since we here at Jacarutu hate Hunters, Sandworms, and the other crap that Bri Bri and Kev wrote, I have this idea that has been brewing in my head.

I would write more oneshot stories, similar to the one above, but set after Chapterhouse Dune and highlighting things that should have happened. As my idea stands, I would write no more than ten of these oneshots, focusing on certain points in Dune 7, and perhaps one or two set in the Butlerian Jihad or somewhere else. This would all be part of one story, but like I said, each 'chapter' would be a drabble or oneshot.

Would such an endeavour be worthy? I want to write something that respects Frank Herbert's work and the Golden Path, since Bri Bri and Kev's work spits on Frank Herbert's legacy.

Feedback on my fanfic is much appreciated, and suggestions and crit is also welcome.

Ghanima has said that out of the two of us, I am the stronger. I made the decision that my father could not make. It is a decision I must live with every day, even after Ghani is long dead. Sometimes I envy her. I am certain that if our roles were reversed, she would have survived in the desert as I have and seen the Golden Path as I did. After all, we share the same gifts.
Would Ghani, being female, have access to Other Memory in the way Leto did ?

Yes, it was clear that she and Leto were preborn. But it was Ghani who stayed behind and "blocked" her memory of Leto so Truthsayers would believe her when she said he was dead.

Also, that passage refers to how Leto has sacrificed his humanity, knowing that many people will hate him later on.

Yep, Ghanima was like Alia, able to access OM of both genders.

I like the style of writing, I think you've done well keeping your words parsimonious, but I always figured the Leto/Ghanima marriage was for dynastic, propaganda type purposes and they were too much the fremen (and too much the human, with all the natural aversions) to have anything sexual with his sister.

I know that in the book, Leto said that his marriage was ceremonial and that Ghanima was truly mated to Harq al-Ada, but like I said in my author's note, I was also inspired from the Children of Dune movie, where they're shown as having a very close bond.

I'm very happy that you liked my writing, parsimonious was a good word for you to use :D

Are brackets {} a cool thing for 2009, or something?

square brackets are for bb tags. angled brackets are for html, which this site allows. brackets are the only one left other than parentheses, which are so passe, man.

Now there's something i'll look forward to, it's a good idea.

About your fan fic:
Didnt settle well with the incest thing going on, in CoD Leto is definitely against incest but i liked your writing and i think you definitely have something there, so keep going and improving :P

I just started using them when I hooked up this Apple keyboard to my laptop hybrid rig,
because they were available. But, yeah, I'm a trendsetter.

Preborn are not trained to avoid the opposite gender OM as is a RM, they don't know any better... until it's too late.

In Children of Dune, Ghanima says that training to be a RM is basically training one ot deal with OM.

All people have both male and female OM. The trick is not just accessing it but avoiding the bad stuff and remaining sane.

First chapter of my 'Dune 7' is done. Considerably pared down from all the crap that Bri Bri and Kev wrote about this particular point in Hunters/Sandworms. I crave feedback and crit. Also, if any of you have a 'point' in Dune 7 you'd like to see me write about, I'm all ears.

Very good. It could easily be an introductory chapter.
Plus you didnt wrote a Murbella that magically knew about an unknown enemy out of the blue. :P
