Which Locus? Maybe I have it and didn't know it. I didn't read all of them yet.

Ill have to look. I found the citation on the UT database. Like I said, I have not seen the article yet, but the abstract on the UT website does have more specificity then the Locus article you posted above.

Kwisatz wrote: Also from collector's perspective is good to know how much the 1/1 Chilton edition was worth:

In 1978 - $125
In 1997 - $360-$900 (from Bookvaluer.com booklet and also 2001, 2006)
In 2001 - $900-$2250
In 2006 - $3600-$7200
In 2011 - $3000-$10000

I am so happy I've got my nearly perfect copy for $1000 ;)
Sorry for being nitpicky.. but in case the 1978 value isn't translated due to inflation, today's value would be $413. It is still a constant increase except lately (bad economy I guess?). Buying collectible books, art or whatever has always been a good investment.

Thanks for scanning and posting the articles, it was joy to read!

Another stuff from Locus...

Damon Knight about Dune movie ;)

Image

1st worldwide edition of Chapterhouse - which was a British one.

Image

2 bestsellers lists - 4 Dunes in papaerbacks and HoD in HC list

Image

Lists are from Jan 1985, I think it was a renewed interest because of movie.

Nominations to Saturn awards

... not to mention the Dune Encyclopedia in the Waldenbooks list. Very nice!

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

IIRC was Heretics a UK first too? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Locus 292.

Book sales for 1984:

Hugo nominations (DE and Movie):

Funny thing about shortage of paper supply in Poland in 80's and non-exchangeable currency and because of these facts we were able to read Dune translation in 1985.

Also there is a photo of a book by Zajdel. Later there was a Zajdel's Award (Polish equivalent of Hugo). In 2008 I donated around $2000 to this Award and in exchange was portrayed with my fiancee in Polish Children of Dune by Wojciech Siudmak.

2 interesting things from Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction (May 1975) - comic adaptation of Occupation Force (that's a surprise) and an interview.

Excellent stuff, Kwisatz - I've got a load of Marvel's black & white magazines from the 70's, shame the market nowadays doesn't support them, but not seen this before. Must be very early work by Perez, doesn't look like his usual facial work, maybe that's to do with Janson's inks. And Frank showing once again in the interview just how damn intelligent he was.
Freakzilla - "Apparently we can only aspire to be the 13th biggest Dune fan since we are not family or in the HLP."

I have lots of magazines (over 250) and I haven't read most of them yet ;)
I'll post something new from time to time.

Meanwhile I'm looking for someone who is living in Japan could help me buying 6-7 books which I don't have. I asked several Amazon.jp sellers and all of them refused to send books abroad.

          and thanks for the first photo, too - I've used a cropped version of that one for an avatar here before;
my second favorite photo of Frank - and I've posted about this before, maybe you have it in your collection,

          the full-frame of this photo:
          Image

the full photo shows the big stuffed easy-chair Frank is sitting in, and the side table he is looking at,
which has a stack of papers he appears to be working with ...

I haven't actually seen this photo in many, many years; went looking for it on the web quite awhile
back, to post as an example of how Writers actually "write" - versus whatever it is Keith does - all
I've ever found was this cropped version ...

for some reason, I have always associated it with Dune Messiah - as being on the back cover of one the
first (US) paperbacks ... I also have always associated the photo with "When I Was Writing Dune", so I
don't know if the photo itself was purported to be of Frank "while writing Dune" ....
................ I exist only to amuse myself ................
          ImageImage

I personally feel that this message board, Jacurutu, is full of hateful folks who don't know
how to fully interact with people.
