Leto's dreams.

Post by DragEgusku »

I wonder what he meant Leto, when he said: "Sometimes my dreams are trapped and radio-directed to strange places." Me, the term "radio-directed" I suggest an external control on Leto's dreams. If so, I wonder who or what exercise such control.
Maybe he meant anything by that time and are curious what Leto's phrase. For more accurate, the quote is from the God-Emperor of Dune.

Weird, I just re-read that book recently and can't remember reading that line. Maybe someone else with searchable PDFs (mine are on another computer) can confirm whether that is a correct quote? What I'm wondering is if that's possibly a translation issue - were you looking at an original English copy of the book, or a translation?

EDIT: and of course I might just be forgetting that passage!

A Google translation of a translation?

Chapter 21 (by my reckoning):
"Sometimes my dreams are blocked off and redirected into strange places," he said. "If my cosmic memories are a web, as you two certainly know, then think about the dimensions of my web and where such memories and dreams might lead."
Sounds to me like a bad translation, somewhere.

DragEgusku, if you don't currently have access to the English versions of the books, please be sure to ask here for the exact quotes before launching off into strange speculations, OK? :)

OK, I understand. :)
We had available in Romanian translation as published by a Romanian publisher. But it's true that I quoted from memory, not text. Sorry.
In any case, I was referring to the passage quoted by SandChigger.
What he meant Leto? Even I could not understand what this phrase.

Basically he's saying, imagine what your dreams would be like if you had the memories of all your ancestors to build them on.

Thanks for clarifying. So Leto dream otherwise (in comparison with ordinary people, ie without ancestral memory). Interesting. Altogether, trying to better understand the God-Emperor of Dune. It's a book that seems complex.
Regarding dreams, Leto says that when you reach the final transformation, each worm will carry a pearl of his consciousness, which will be awake in a dream forever.
I hope this time I quoted accurately. :)

That is correct.
