Hoom dee ah-dah?

Post by SandChigger »

Anyone else watch Discovery Channel?

This last week or so over here in Japan, they've been playing this funny bit with people (many of them stars of various shows, like the Myth Buster guys and Bear Grylls) singing a song listing all the things they love about the world while doing the things they do. (E.g., "I love real dirty things. I love going fast. I love Egyptian kings. I love hot magma.") Starts out with two astronauts hanging in space looking down at the planet.

The chorus part, in the thread title, and the whole tune in fact, is REALLY catchy. (And is slowly driving me crazy. ) Was just wondering if they've been playing it in the States as well. (Or if it's been playing longer there.)

(My favorite bits are Bear Grylls holding a mofo-class spider singing "I love arachnids" with that "I'm going to eat you now" look on his face; one of the Myth Buster guys (Adam?) setting the other one's arm on fire; and Stephen Hawking singing along with the chorus. Now THAT's entertainment. ;) )

I don't think I've seen that, I would remember Hawking singing.

Ooh, it's on again! :D

(They're overplaying it a bit.)

Found a WHOLE SLEW of posts on YouTube. Looks like it's been around a while, different versions.

Title is "I love the whole world".

I watch Discovery Channel regularly here in The Netherlands, but haven't seen what you described ( yet ).
"... the mystery of life isn't a problem to solve but a reality to experience."

“There is no escape—we pay for the violence of our ancestors.”

Sandrider: "Keith went to Bobo's for a weekend of drinking, watched some DVDs,
and wrote a Dune Novel."

Here's a link, but I don't know if it will resolve to a US YouTube server or not. (If not, just go to YouTube and type in "Discovery I love the whole world" and something should turn up.)

And...lyrics!

"It never gets old, huh."
"Nope."
"It kinda makes you wanna -"
"Break into song?"
"Yep."

I love the mountains
I love the clear blue skies
I love big bridges
I love when great whites fly
I love the whole world [Les Stroud]
And all its sights and sounds
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da
I love the oceans
I love real dirty things [Mike Rowe]
I love to go fast
I love Egyptian kings
I love the whole world
And all its craziness
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da [Richard Machowicz]
I love tornadoes [Joshua Wurman]
I love arachnids [Bear Grylls]
I love hot magma
I love the giant squids
I love the whole world
It's such a brilliant place
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da [Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage]
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da [Stephen Hawking]
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da
Boom-dee-ah-da, boom-dee-ah-da

I don't know...it makes me giggle.

I love when the two astronauts do props as they start singing. :D

Is there an emoticon somewhere for that warm rush of happy that almost leaks out your eyes? ;)

And is it wrong to think once in a while that the world isn't half as bad as they say?

(There are some minor differences with the version they're showing on Discovery Japan. The line of singing monks, for example, is not in our version. (I'll have to watch tonight and see what's been inserted in their place.) Also, after the "Future Weapons" guy shoots his gun, we get a line of volcanoes spouting smoke and flame, not a house blowing up (where he has shot it?). Otherwise the same as far as I can tell for now.)

I knew I was trying to quote something there above but not getting it quite right. Had to paw about in the car CDs on the drive home to find it....

I get lost in the beauty
Of everything I see.
The world ain't half as bad
As they paint it to be.

Hell, these mormons can yell and swear like the best of 'em. You'd be surprised how many middle fingers there are in rush hour traffic. Punk bands hate playing here because the crowds are so violent........I think it has something to do with how the LDS church supresses everything....like the human spirit.

I played two seasons of basketball in a Mormon league (each team was allowed two godless heathens), and I've never heard such colorful and interesting language. I'm not sure why, but many of the other players wanted me to jam ... things ... up other things.

For the most part, though, once the game was over, everything was cool. They were mostly nice guys, actually. Weird, huh?

Oh God, don't get me started on church ball! 40 year old lanky white guys who all think they own the church they play in and who still hold a grudge from high school for not getting a shot at college ball. These guys are just cocky pricks . It's funny as shit when they argue with each other and try to act all macho.....They've never thrown a punch in their whole life. You wouldn't believe the number of kicked chairs I've seen. And then there's the guy that could never really play but thinks he's awesome and fouls and molests you like sweaty gorilla with a head band and glasses.

It's even worse in the youth leagues.

Last time I was in SLC some old man cut me off headed towards the gas pump. My window was down and I yelled "what the fuck are you doing?" He and his wife both heard me. They looked up, smiled, waved and the old man backed up. I figured it was something in the water there.
