Isaac Hayes-passing

Post by Eyes High »

I just read that the singer Isaac Hayes has died. Any one liked his music? Thoughts, if any, what his passing will mean to the music industry.
What fear is there in the night?
Nothing, but that which is in our own imaginations.

I'm trying hard to remember the name of even one of his songs. :(

I guess I associate him more now with the growing(?) list of celebrities duped and used by the Church of Scientology.

(I wonder if Hubbard Heaven is everything they told him it would be? )

From CNN.com:

Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Shular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.

Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said.

No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement.

Isaac Hayes did the soundtrack for "Shaft" the 1971 movie starring Richard Roundtree.

A lot will be said about Isaac Hayes but I want all of you to know that he was a really good actor. I'll never forget him with his friend James Garner in "The Rockford Files". Isaac played an ex-con newly released from prison who looks up his old friend "Rockfish" to lead him to the lying dog that put him in prison.

Does that sound like comedy? Well Isaac managed to get laughs out of his performance as a single-minded vengeful man asking Jim Rockford for "free" help all the while getting in James Garner's way destroying evidence and scarring away witnesses. So funny in fact that Isaac's character made a repeat appearance on the show to the delight of Rockford Files fans.

You should see me on Retro Junk. I'm driving all the kids crazy telling stories about the olden-days in the 1960's watching The Patty Duke Show, My Mother the Car, Get Smart, F-Troop, Mr. Terrific and The Double Life of Henry Fife.

You should read all the flack I get from online members born since 1990!

(btw, if you think Star Trek, Lost in Space, Gilligan's Island, The Addams Family, The Munsters, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Batman and Time Tunnel are cool - you should've seen the shows listed above! The 1960's ROCKED!)

1. Know her name, never saw the show.
2. I remember this one! :D
3. Loved it!
4. Yep!
5. No idea.
6. This one, either. :(

We lived over in Kentucky in my father's home town until I was four or five, so that show about Daniel Boone was a really big favorite. (Who was in it, Fess Parker?)

What else? Oh yeah, my mom and sister liked The Flying Nun. Such a weird show when you think about it now....

R.I.P. Isaac Hayes.

OK SandChigger - I made a spelling error, it should be "The Double Life of Henry Phyfe" from 1966. Yes, it was a "Get Smart" wanna be. Here's the lowdown: The world's greatest international spy - agent U-31, arrives in the USA only to be killed by a freak hit-and-run car accident. As luck would have it, there's a man who looks exactly like agent U-31, a mild-mannered accountant named Henry Phyfe.

Henry is recruited by Counter Intelligence Service (CIS) to impersonate U-31 and take over all of U-31's assignments. Does this sound like a comedy to you?

Well the CIS covers up all evidence of U-31's death and no one knows that Henry has taken U-31's place. But Henry Phyfe is a meek office clerk with no background suitable for the spy game. Funny, yes?

Any way SandChigger, The Double Life Of Henry Phyfe starred Red Buttons, the great stage and movie actor/comedian. Better known for his movie roles, this was one of the few TV shows Red Buttons ever appeared in since the cancellation of his own series in 1954.

And I want everyone to know that I'm still shocked by the sudden death of Bernie Mack as well. Meeting new friends here on Jacurutu and Haven could not have made better timing.
