Talk Talk - 1984

Post by Centurion988 »

Please forgive an old man that's new to computers but today I accidently discovered a video to a song I haven't heard in 24 years. Until today I didn't know the name of the band either. This stuff may mean nothing to you but it is a revelation to me!

"Its My Life" by Talk Talk from 1984. I heard this ONCE at a party and its haunted my memory ever since. I hope its OK to post this because I want to share it with my new friends.

That is a really good song, I have heard it a few times but never knew that the band was called. So thanks for posting it!

I like the version No Doubt did a couple of years ago. The video is really cool.

This isn't that bad for 80's synth pop, which means a lot coming from a fella that despises that genre, like myself :)

Oooooo, I forgot about this one! This stuff used to be my life. I'm gonna have to add this to my 80's retro mix.

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for the perfect 80's Retro/New Wave mix. Some that I consider essential, must-have 80's New Wave:

Melt With You - Modern English (duh)
Take on Me - Ah ha
If You Leave - OMD
I Promise - When In Rome
Everybody Wants to Rule the World/Shout - Tears for Fears
Pictures of You - The Cure
Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
Mirror in the Bathroom - The English Beat
Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads
Tainted Love - Soft Cell

and lots, lots more!
Poop is funny.

I forgot about this song. But I think I saw it on MTV back in the day when they actually showed music videos and had only ONE channel.

THANK YOU everyone. Very kind comments. I was afraid people would laugh at me. Since I never had cable, MTV was not a part of my life. All I had was a fading memory from 24 years ago. As time passes memories seem more like dreams. When I accidently found this, I almost fell out of my chair. At least I didn't dream the song. It's a relief to know I'm not losing my mind, yet!

Unbelievable! So the name of the band is "No Doubt"? Yes, I've never heard this before. Wow, her voice is deep and throaty-sexy. Well done. I can't thank you enough for the link. Shout out to chanilover!

This computer stuff is cool!

You have no idea how wonderful this is for me. With a single post you've formed the basis for my first play list of 80's favorites. So how cool is that?

Spicelon I'm limited by my keyboard to talk to you through a computer, otherwise you could see on my face how happy you've made me.

I remember hearing the No Doubt version.

Had to use another link to get to the Talk Talk version. (Anyone else think the regional restrictions on viewing on YouTube suck? )

Is it the video with the vocal in a zoo and lots of animal shots?

Ooh...nice page of links...fun stuff! Human League, Dead or Alive, Men At Work, Lauper, Bronski Beat/Communards, Erasure, FGTH. Ooh, ooh! :D

The '80s was such a crap decade.

In a weird good way. ;)

OMG, I think I am a college freshman again!

Well, I was obsessively reading Dune in those days too, so not much has changed....

Its my life is an 80's teen anthem!! great music!!

the remake by no doubt, in my opinion, punch's the song up even makes it even better.Gwen stefani is a goddess!!!!

Some other songs I think are '80s essential.

"I ran" - Flock of Seagulls
"whip it" - Devo
"one thing leads to another" - The fixx
"Pretty in Pink" & "love my way" - The Psychedelic Furs

decent list of 80's needed to hear.

Rock on!
Trang
"Long Live the Fighters", "Dragon.....the other white meat."

I was a freshman at State the year The Wall came out.

"We don't need no education." (Just remedial English?)

INSTANT anthem. :D

Wow...that was the cusp of the '80s...and nearly thirty years ago.

Would not go back for love or money.

(Might think about it for a bit of the sex, though. :P )

My apologies to SandChigger. I'm new to youtube restrictions. Always a shock to run into them. But you are correct, the link is to the original UK version of Talk Talk's video. It shows stock footage of wild animals cut in with scenes shot in the London zoo. The USA version shows Mark Hollis, spliced-in over the animal scenes, lip-syncing the words to the song.

Shout out to waff and trang. I feel like I'm 30 yrs old again when I hear all this 80's music. What a shame I'm only now getting the whole computer, dvd player, downloading thing going. Since I'm late to this party, I've got some websurfing to do!
