Keith is a Grandmaster! O_O

Grandmaster Award
Sometimes it’s good to read your email as soon as it comes in! I just received this surprise announcement today. I didn’t know I was even halfway old enough to get any sort of “lifetime achievement”—I’m just getting up to speed. My sincere thanks to the nominating committee and to all the fans who have read my books over the years.
•••
The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers (http://www.iamtw.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) co-founders Lee Goldberg & Max Allan Collins are pleased to announce the 2012 nominees for the Scribe Award, honoring excellence in media tie-in writing, and the naming of author Kevin J. Anderson as this year’s Grandmaster for his lifetime achievement in the field.

Anderson is the author of more than one hundred novels, adding up to over 20 million books in print in thirty languages. His work includes the STAR WARS “Jedi Academy” books, three internationally bestselling X-FILES hardcovers, the Superman novels THE LAST DAYS OF KRYPTON and ENEMIES & ALLIES, many novelizations (SKY CAPTAIN & THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, etc.) and, of course, the ten globally bestselling DUNE novels he has co-authored with Brian Herbert.

He has won or been nominated for numerous prestigious honors, including the Nebula Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and a New York Times Notable Book prize…and now he can add IAMTW Grandmaster to the list of his extraordinary achievements.

The awards will be given at a ceremony in July at this year’s Comic-Con convention in San Diego.

Is this an OPEN ceremony?
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

Odds are you will need a Comicon membership to see the ceremony and they have been sold out for months, unless it is off site...

when I saw grand master at the top, I was thinking Science Fiction writers of america, and was going to get really really pissed, but....but this seems like a pretty minor group?

The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers (http://www.iamtw.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) co-founders Lee Goldberg & Max Allan Collins. Grandmaster of non original ideas and living off others franchise's.

GrandMaster dipshit is more like it.

Sounds about as important as the international paint by numbers artist association.

Thing is Max Allan Collins can write, crime fiction and he is the creator of Road to Perdition, sad to see a good writer associated with a hack.

Any organization that gives praise for quantity over quality will sense my fart in their general direction. I see this in academia too and I fucking hate it.

Tie-writers and their work are often overlooked and under-appreciated by existing organizations like the
Mystery Writers of America, Science Fiction Writers of America, and the Romance Writers of America,
even though some of their most respected members work in the field.
So, you feel snubbed by groups that honor & recognize content... That must be awful.
Tie-ins represent a huge percentage of the books published each year, they are enormously successful
and are widely enjoyed by readers. And yet we have no organization that represents our unique business
and professional interests nor acknowledges excellence in our field.

I fail to see how your business and professional interests are all that unique. In fact, i'd want to be very careful
throwing a word like unique around a genre that is, by definition, generic.
Fanfiction does not qualify.
Hold on Hoss, wtf IS the difference between editing a script and fan fiction? Oh, creativity... originality... got it.
You only honor the regurgitation of committee born, focus group tested, big budget merchandizing.

It's a shame you don't include criteria for winning this award.

For my money, this is in the same category as the Denver Mens Gardeners Club Book Of The Year Award.

edit; Your new grandmaster has made TiW an insult!
No where near the WOW that Amp recently won!

IAMaTiW, I'm glad that you're proud and all, good for you. Having something nice to say about the hack destroys
whatever you were going for.
Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

It's like being proud of getting the award for dullest performance, not the kind of things you'd brag about...
unless you were a grandmaster of wank.

At first I thought you were referring to the same Grandmaster award that Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Silverberg and Damon Knight have, as well as bunch of other SF greats...And I was pissed.

But...this shit doesn't matter. 8) 8) 8)

What's a media tie in? They say that fan fiction doesn't count so that should disqualify
Wells, Verne, & Herbert... And the Dickens trilogy we all know is coming-
That leaves Sky Capt. & Ex. Gents. I should think Star Wars, X-Files, & comics are fan
fic as well but perhaps that's arguable. So two to five rates grandmaster?

Good luck with turning mediocrity into a bigger paycheck based on bulk. You're up against
an overwhelming number of migrant authors who can't afford or refuse to attend your
'superstars' fleeceshop. (I almost said workshop)

I bought a movie book once, "The Unidentified Flying Oddball," the movie was better.
http://www.amazon.com/Unidentified-Flyi ... 309&sr=8-2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
edit; just so you know it does exist, he's the wrong way astronaut who rockets back to
Camelot. Swords will clash and lasers steam, there's an oddball on King Arthur's team!

Selected writing advice from a penis who walks like a man;
It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does have to be finished.

Your draft words or descriptions might be redundant. So what? They can
be fixed later.

You might make grammatical mistakes. So what? Promise
yourself you’ll fix them later—after you’ve got the story written.

... Surprisingly, when I went back to the initial pages, fully
intending to spend weeks on major editing and rewriting, I found that the
constant, intense practice had taught me to produce crisp, fast-paced
writing as compelling as if I’d spent hours agonizing over each page.
My wife and I once plotted and outlined an entire Star Wars “Junior Jedi
Knights” trilogy using crayons on the butcher-paper tablecloth in an Italian
restaurant. Before leaving, we tore off the wide chunk of the paper, folded
it, and took it with us as our “notes.”
Speaking finished prose out loud into a voice recorder may be difficult until
you get used to the idea. Some writers have tried and couldn’t quite get
the hang of it; several told me they felt self-conscious walking along and
talking to themselves—just pretend it’s a Bluetooth set or a cell phone.
Nobody else knows the difference.
Endless polishing and editing and revising and polishing again and then
rewriting and then editing does not make a story perfect—it just makes a
story endless.

Well, that's a fun way to start my Friday night. What a hack. I can believe that he believes it but the fact that he's dumb enough to say it to someone else blows my mind.
