Greater mass means the greater potential to store heat, kind of like storing power in a battery. Dense materials such as concrete store and transmit/conduct heat quite well.

I kinda have a problem with encased brains & spinal cords... and not just because of the Jan-in-the-Pan Titans in McDune: they're susceptible to injury and eventually die. :(
