Watched Odd Thomas last night. It was good. Interesting story line and nice CGI. Spiff said it was a good adaptation of the book. I haven't read the books yet but they are on my the list..

Also watched Supervolcano. It was so-so.. Would have loved to see more lava flow but I guess it wasn't in the budget. Special effects were hit and miss. But if you like cheap disaster flicks this would suffice.
Inh, I watched it on Netflix.

Besides the two obvious perky reasons ... I really like the movie because of the relevance to its timeframe. It was full of flower power, drugs and sexual revolution and all that in a science fiction setting ... what is not to like?

Dude, there was so much going on in the movie, you need to look for symbols and metaphors, the sparse dialogue makes you take in more of the film and get what is going on.

I've watched it twice this weekend. Don't get me wrong... saying it's worthy is high praise. But it just seems like and extended last act of Road Warrior (Mad Max 2).

It may take place after Thunderdome.

Mad Max- Remote area shelter from the devastation, ends with Max driving off into the wasteland.
Road Warrior - Society is broken down, signs of civilization are devolving.
Thunder dome - Civilization is restarting, you have the gathering of people into communities and the beginning of the struggle to rise out of the devastation.
Fury Road - More enclaves of society are appearing with industry, gas, bullets, food production.

Society collapses and rebuilds itself during a ten or maybe 20 year phase of one guy's life, and nobody ever talks about what happened? Nobody laments the past?

Far as I am concerned those movies are stand-alones.

That is one interpretation that Miller has given over the years, along with Fury Road happening after Thunderdome and even stating it takes place before Thunderdome.

He has suggested that the movies are the retellings of the stories about Mad Max that have grown and changed over the years as they have been passed down from person to person.

The beauty of the movies is that they could be all the interpretations depending how you look at them, that is how strong the story telling is.

MIB3. Better than I expected actually.
PotC: On Stranger Tides. Decent show, but doesn't live up to the original.

as an historical re-enactor (who's slipped back into rendezvous (pre-1840s fur trade era/mountain man) because they don't mind me getting drunk and falling into the fire like the fucking hens in the confederate cavalry do and don't get pissed off and call the sheriff about what I chose to put in my pipe) AND a huge DiCaprio fan (& I don't care what ANY of you think about that) I was really, really excited about The Revenant.

biggest fucking disappointment since SandTurds of noDune.

they played high, holy hell with the historical facts of the Hugo Glass story, for no good reason. Also, I believed the hype, that THIS was the role that would get Leo the Academy Award he was denied for the Aviator. But son, you don't get an Oscar for being dirty and cold and bloody for two hours, and only having 10 lines of (really lame & pointless) dialog (which comes in ONE scene) Srsly, he speaks in a made-up "native" language to his (non-historical son) and grunts in the first few minutes, gets fucked up by a bear and crawls thru snow for-fucking-ever. Gets to the fort, has his ten lines, then goes back out in the snow. bullshit, I say, just bullshit.


ON THE OTHER HAND: Manson Family Vacation (now on netflix) is staggeringly awesome.
