What. The. Fuck?
CBS wrote:CBS) A mysterious missile launch off the southern California coast was caught by CBS affiliate KCBS's cameras Monday night, and officials are staying tight-lipped over the nature of the projectile.

CBS station KFMB put in calls to the Navy and Air Force Monday night about the striking launch off the coast of Los Angeles, which was easily visible from the coast, but the military has said nothing about the launch.

KFMB showed video of the apparent missile to former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Robert Ellsworth, who is also a former Deputy Secretary of Defense, to get his thoughts.

Scroll down for KFMB video showing the launch.

"It's spectacular… It takes people's breath away," said Ellsworth, calling the projectile, "a big missile".

Magnificent images were captured by the KCBS news helicopter in L.A. around sunset Monday evening. The location of the missile was about 35 miles out to sea, west of L.A. and north of Catalina Island.

A Navy spokesperson told KFMB it wasn't their missile. He said there was no Navy activity reported in the area Monday evening.

On Friday night, Vandenberg Air Force Base, in California, launched a Delta II rocket, carrying an Italian satellite into orbit, but a sergeant at the base told KFMB there had been no launches since then.
Wack. Thoughts?

Only by the peaceful uniting of all of the world's superpowers will be safe from the alien squids.

The first easy guess seems to be a conspiracy to hide a classified launch on the part of our military....but that doesn't make any sense for several reasons. We announce classified launches all the time....we just don't give any details as to the payload. Also, it's against the law to launch in domestic airspace without properly notifying military and civilian aviators which was NOT done this time (it's been exhaustively checked).

If it were us, and this is a big secret, then why launch right at sunset 35 miles offshore from LA where it's *bound* to be seen? You could hardly pick a more visible place to launch a sea-borne missile.

If it's not ours, then who the hell launched it? A submarine seems likely, which points to either North Korea, China, or one or two other "enemies." None of them is known to have technology that could evade our magnetic-anomaly detectors spread throughout the pacific and almost certainly most dense near the CA coast. So how did a foreign sub get so close to LA, if that's what happened?

The big thing here is that the Pentagon says "we don't know what it is, but it isn't a threat."

UH.....that's got to be one of the greatest oxymorons of all time. If we don't know what this is, then THAT IS A THREAT!

One theory is that we're trying to send a message to Asia (re: Russia and China) that our old ICBMs still work so don't think of attacking. At least, that's what that old NATO guy they interviewed thinks.

My understanding is that he was an ambassador...IMHO, that theory doesn't hold a lot of water -- and a lot of people analyzing this seem to agree. I think everybody in the world knows that our rocket technology is viable....the only way to prove that our ICBM/SLBMs actually still work would be to detonate one at a pre-announced location. Not to mention, such a demonstration would be much better served if it were carried out any number of other ways.

Well, in any case, it's certainly not the greys or their reptilian masters. I'm sure aliens have better tech than rockets.

It was Howard trying to impress another one of his lady friends.

if not then we could just be: could just be "attached to another object by an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis.”

EH, you must really be enjoying The Big Bang Theory!

I definitely liked the comment to Sheldon about being "screwed."

That was brilliant indeed. In a few weeks time I have watched all episodes and man do I laugh it. Howard's mum being my favourite character.

The Navy is in full denial mode about this. Making me think it was a missile launched in error.

that's the obvious answer ... I've been bombarded today with insane forwarded emails from everybody ... I mean everybody, from
my buddies on the fruitcake Left who tell me this was a demonstration of the Continuity of Government's chain-of-commands' control
over the nuclear arsenal , to my relatives on the militant Right, who tell me this was either a chinese submarine or there was a terrorist
sleeper agent onboard a US sub who was attempting to reprogram the flight path of a nuke-tipped Trident to hit washington while Obama
was out of the country, but got caught - during the ensuing struggle, the missile was launched, but the flight plan was a mess and it
splashed down way out in the pacific without detonating ... Navy SEALS are today attempting to recover the warhead ...

You are so right. And that line was the best so far. I had hope someone would get the reference.

Or launching his ashes into orbit, just like Montgomery Scott's.
