Spanky's massive ego on display

Post by TheDukester »

This whole thing is worth a read:

http://kjablog.com/?p=1116" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But, by all means, do not miss "Peak 4." It's pure comedy gold.

Also, the entry mentions Anderhack seeing a bear (our dream! except the bear needs to be attacking!), and almost dying of hypothermia (our dream! just take out the "almost").

For a peek (yuk-yuk) into the incredibly screwed-up psyche of Kevin J. Anderson, this is a must-read.

Peak 4

First bestseller

First movie deal

Friends and acquaintances want to borrow money all the time

Other writers begin sniping at you for your “undeserved” success

Critics blast you because you’re “too popular”

Holy shit, that quote is not made up! It's actually in there!

What an incredible insight into the morass of ego and insecurity that is KJA.

Man, that was painful and disgusting. For an author he has no idea about how to use metaphor and simile.

Someone tell him he forgot to mention, "accomplished courtroom expert," in peak #4,

Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

edit to add. I really do feel sorry for him you know, I live a modest life with my wee family in a wee tenement but I am happy. I don't think he ever is, are there any candid photos of him honestly smiling or are they all pigeon chested bravado?

Are James Patterson, John Grisham, and Dean Koontz comfortably perched and satisfied on lofty Mount Everest?
So these are the authors he emulates. What do they all have in common?

They are at the extreme end of "financial success" for authors.

I'll say they're at the extreme end - according to the BBC, they are 3 of the top 7 highest-earning authors!

And I laughed at Keith's assertion that they aren't resting on their laurels, but ever striving for higher peaks to climb - bollocks - Patterson, for one, doesn't even write his own books any more. That's why he's scheduled to release 12 books this year alone.

I had high-hopes for Grisham once ... thought he could be the new Faulkner ...
he certainly captures many of the truisms of Southern People, good, bad, & ugly ....

but the cocksucker can't write outside of the "write-what-you-know" trap;
then Hollywood started dumping the Stupid Money on him ... I think Tom Cruise kidnapped
his soul, too ... he's dangerously close to being on my "Hack/Disregard" list, altho I haven't
read anything of his in quite some time ...

he came close to "classic" with the autobiographical one about growing up on a cotton farm
in Arkansas - seems like it was called "The Painted House" or something ... I think Hollywood
bought that one and sucked the Art right of it, too, but I'm not sure .... still tho, it was mostly
"autobiographical" .... to be a great novelist, you've got to be able to write what you don't
know ... and nail it ...

anyway, that's not why I clicked "reply" ...

I'd like to point out (again) that despite the vicious internets-rumors,
we of the OH seem to be (mostly) a painfully honest bunch ...

[edit] like when some novice stumbles across a particularly venomous Chigger comment, and gets all twisted in the britches and starts tossing out baseless (and disprovable) accusations ... like the whole "hacked into Keith's Treehouse" episode ... Chigger told us all right then about the fuck-up in the log-in procedure, and then told them ... and eventually they fixed it, but it's still out there that "SandChigger hacked the KJASF site" ...[/edit]

we don't make shit up - we don't have to .... we just copypasta the snippets that seem
to fly over the heads of the General Public ... and even if taken "in context", you can
always count on TheKeith to say something ... outrageous, preposterous, vain, silly ?
take your pick ...

Fans stupid enough to buy the books.

Which ties it back in nicely with McDune, no? :)

I agree. My surprise came from that quote looking like a satirical summary rather than something Keith would actually write. How wrong I was.

KJA, the bastard that he is, makes me wonder how the hell bad writing manages to succeed. OH, right, cause its all about mountain peaks, voice recorders, and some poor lady typing up what you vomited out when she plays back the tape.

That formula doesn't even make any sense.

Exactly right. And there's quite a few of them, and most of them are completists.

Spanky and Bobo could release six McDunes per year and there'd be preeks by the truckload waiting to snap them all up. The "gotta have 'em all!" thing is one of the main reasons I loathe most things about SF/Fantasy fandom.

An embarrassing fact, I continued to buy Cards Ender books even after the poor guy lost interest in writing them. Optimistically, I guess you could say it's the power of that one great book. I'm not sure I want to examine the darker reasons.

Did you mean to write 'complete tits'?
