As much as I like Bob Eggleton's artwork, as he's the originator of the "talifan" insult I hope he doesn't win best artist. Petty of me I'll admit, but...fuck him.

The City & The City, China Miéville (Del Rey; Macmillan UK)
 Have this, but haven't read it yet.

Anderhack may not be there (AGAIN!!!), but this hack is:
Wake, Robert J. Sawyer (Ace; Penguin; Gollancz; Analog)
(Damn. I was going to link to a picture of Sawyer from Wikipedia and discovered that the full version of his faceshot there is 2.54 MB. WHAT THE FUCK?!)

I take it these Hugos are like the Oscars for SF books? So Combover has been cruelly snubbed. HAHAHA!!!

Right, at least here in the colonies. The Hugos and Nebulas are our "big two" SF awards — the words "Hugo winner!" or "Nebula-winning novel!" or whatever are a very, very common cover blurb on our SF/Fantasy books.

For the record, here's Anderkeith's career record for those two awards. He was first published in 1982.

Hugo
Nominations: 0
Wins: 0

Nebula
Nominations: 1 (a shared credit, too)
Wins: 0

It should be noted that the Hugo is the more important award. The Nebula is bestowed by the SFWA ... which I think is some kind of abbreviation for "Circle-Jerking Wankers & Assholes". Original must be in French or something.

Anyway, Kevvie's been brown-nosing Mike Resnick again, on Twitter this time, so I figure he's just a few more strokes away from getting his very own Nebula.

Being a suckessful author is hard. REAL hard.

Hugos are awards given for the fan's elections. The nomination and voting process is Byzantine, and its come under some fire in the last few years, but its fan based. The Nebulas are awarded based on votes collected from other SFWA members, all of whom are SFF writers. Its supposed to be a very political process, and the impression is that the members vote for their friends, regardless of the quality of the story that is up for the award.

I am excited. The author of Boneshaker attended my current Alma Mater. I need to read it and If it's good I will root for her all the way.

well there, you go. Everybody Hates Keith, so no Nebby for him.

there's not enough adults reading Keith (and not hating him from page one) for a Hugo ...

guess he's stuck with Awards of Merit from the 501st Legion, dot-matrix printed in a proud momma's basement ...

Warning: I'm about to be pedantic:

It's really not your "alma mater" until you graduate. For now, it's more like "the place you go to school."
[/pedantic]

Sorry about that. Sometimes I can't help it. I also call companies that misspell words or use improper English on billboards.

And have exterior genitalia.

You're an alumna if they're inside. ;)

And, I suppose, an alumnum if missing. :?

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.
