J.D. Salinger Dies at 91

I'm surprised to hear this. The Catcher in the Rye is my absolute favorite novel, both for the literary-value itself and personal history. I'm happy that he remained until the end faithful to his work. Hopefully we won't see any movie adaptations because of his passing.

A little English-major levity here:

"He was 91 years old, for crying out loud."
"Anything I write will be remembered and listed in bibliographies on Dune for several hundred years ..." — some delusional halfwit troll.

me, too.

I knew he was in "self-imposed" exile because
a) he was batshit crazy; or
b) he couldn't write anything of value anymore and went batshit crazy

He apparently has about six or so completely-finished manuscripts that he didn't want published, but they most likely will after some time.

So what you're saying is KJA might be able to team up with Salinger's son and try to cash in on it?

I can't wait until he pisses off the Catcher in the Rye fans.

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

... like all the Nirvana shit that got released after Kurt died... sheesh, if even HE thought they were too bad for the public then that should have been enough to tell people not to release it!

I've actually only read it once, and may never again to "preserve" that part of my life where everyone was phonies and my girlfriend of the time had stolen it for me from a locker. (She bought me another one later on) Still a good airplane-read, though.
