Why? Because Card is anti-gay? I don't care what his hang-ups are, he's entitled to his opinion.

And Heaven knows that Frank Herbert's opinions on homosexuality were hardly more admirable. In most circumstances, I am quite happy to leave people to whatever disgusting viewpoints they like to have.

But writing isn't music. With Wagner, for example, I can imagine his musical genius to be a quality completely distinct from his virulent anti-semitism. Card is no simpleton; his presence in the anti-gay camp alone raises its average IQ by at least ten point, to say nothing about the wonders he does for their eloquence and respectability. Especially if you read his short stories and writing about fiction, it's obvious that he is someone of great compassion and clear thinking. Who, nevertheless, can find it in himself to deny homosexuals a privilege accorded even the most sordid heterosexual; the right not to have their feelings of love and intimacy questioned and criminalized.

A boycott is an uncivil thing, but this isn't the 1960s; homosexual emancipation isn't an academic subject to discussed by gentlemen over a cigar in the dining room(*). It's a pressing issue with a very clear impact on people's lives and happiness. Fighting for the anti-gay camp is an inherently uncivil thing. No matter how velvety the words you use to cloak your arguments.

Moreover, this boycott is gaining currency under science fiction fans. The very people who have read more than one his novels, appreciated his thoughts. They're not strangers, or rabid activists seizing onto an opportunity. A boycott from them is a powerful message; "These are the people who would admire you, who even want to admire you, if only ... "

The thing is, I can write the above, and I am still uncertain about whether to boycott the movie.

(*) There's a horrible pun in there somewhere, but I'm not in the right mood to make it.

If they want the older Batman, then they should just go full on Dark Knight Returns and get Peter Weller.

Affleck's skill aside, he is too recognizable. I can't see him as Bruce Wayne, but I do know whenever you see him in the Cowl, you'll instantly recognize him as Ben Affleck/Bruce Wayne. If Affleck is Batman, it better be the 60's/Adam West Batman.

Karl Urban would make a good middle aged Batman. Scratch that, he'd make a fucking awesome Batman.

Heck, I'd stomach Jason Stantham or Vin Diesel as Batman.

The Rock would make a better Batman than Ben Affleck.

Edit: Gonna go watch Dredd again.

Did you see who was playing mommy? I like her. I think Carrie is played by the little girl from Zombieland.

Personally I am looking forward to Gravity. I have no idea why, as the ads give virtually nothing away (reminds me of Hal sending Frank Poole out into the void in 2001, so I am hoping that they go a different way then ACL did in 3001), but the hype has drawn me in.

Yes, it does look interesting. Kinda reminds me of the movie about the two divers that got left behind... Open Water?

Chloë Grace Moretz, she's from Atlanta!

Don't think she was in Zombieland but she was in Kick Ass.

I'm definitely looking forward to the direction - I love that he's doing the "stupidly-long-shots" things again. The one they used as the trailer was brilliant.

Hopefully the film itself will be ok, although I'm not setting my hopes too high.

She's 16, which is I believe legal in Georgia.

At least they had more sense than to use Smith's son as his son.

"Deep in the ice of the antarctic, a team of geologists uncover an old nazi laboratory still intact where dark experiments had occured. In order to conquer the world, the Nazis created modified sharks who were able to fly and whose riders are genetically mutated, undead super-humans. A miltary task force called "Dead Flesh Four" - reanimated US soldiers who fell in Vietnam - is put together to prevent world downfall."

There is no such thing.

Syfy can kiss my ass. They have done more to hurt SF than anyone or anything out there.

My bad, hadn't seen syfy was responsible.
You got to admit silly movies can be good, if they're badly don... Wait.

You know what? I'm not even sure it is Syfy. But it kinda has to be them, right?

I'll admit I hadn't seen the trailer before posting, and come to think of it the movie poster is kinda designed to mimic Iron Sky (skies?), but it's just a gore fest with bad acting. (and I've watched Bad Taste so...)
About syfy, well it's been said here before, whoever writes it like some "nite klub flaya" is clearly set on major dumbing down. Although in a club, as opposed to science fiction, you don't need brains.

The new Ghostbusters movie. I think I shall pass on that one or at least wait until it comes to TV
Even the commercials are getting annoying.

Eyes, me too, although I hear the movie is not as bad as the previews.

If it were a continuation of the previous two - even with different characters - I might be on board, but apparently it's a hard reboot. With dumb jokes. No thanks.

Looked like crap to me from early on. Retread, rehash crap with a gimmick-y twist, designed to do nothing more than sell you the same shit you bought when you were a kid.

Don't really care at all for the BS that went on on Twitter over this flick, but I never would have shelled out a dime to see it even if that had not happened.

Not sure if I want to look forward to this or not. I wasn't really impressed with I, Robot:
