My Macross fansite, on the off chance anyone is interested

Post by GamePlayer »

Just made a major update to my fansite of the anime franchise Macross. I know there's not a lot of fans here, but I figured maybe one or two people might be curious at least. If nothing else, you can appreciate the effort :)

MAJOR UPDATE!
Macross Mecha Manual Version 2.0 (Our One-Year Anniversary!)

It's 2008 and the Macross Mecha Manual celebrates it's first birthday! It's been a lot of work and I want to thank all the fans for visiting and supporting this website (including patiently enduring the recent server switch which had us down for a while). Today the Macross Mecha Manual not only features an update with 50 new profiles but also a website-wide revision making this one of the most important updates in the M3's history. Without a doubt, 2008 is going to be a big year for Macross as the newest animated television series in the franchise, Macross Frontier, begins airing in Japan in April. This past December fans were treated to a special promotional release of the first episode of Macross Frontier and the reviews have been largely positive from the fans and the larger anime community. It's an exciting time for Macross and I hope this website helps fans world wide enjoy the newest jewel of this long time science fiction franchise!

This update also adds Information Headers to all sections of the website. The headers feature production information and relevant trivia for each Macross anime. These headers will help website navigation as well as provide fans and non-fans alike with relevant reference points for properly placing each vehicle within the larger Macross continuity.

The new Macross production titled Macross Frontier now has a very rudimentary section on the Macross Mecha Manual. It is my hope that line art for Macross Frontier is made available much faster and in a more comprehensive book than that which was published for Macross Zero.

Macross World forum member Dante74 has created Custom Banners for each section of the website as well as new Navigation Buttons. I am extremely pleased to present his work and hope that these new additions make the website even more enjoyable for our visitors. Lastly, the for fans only section debuts which contains fan-made line art, custom color schemes, variant squadron colors, wallpapers, line art comparison pictures and other miscellaneous goodies. Due to visitor feedback, I've simplified the website by relocating Features and Humor (along with the sub-sections) into the new for fans only section.

Refer to the list below for all the new profiles in this update.

Kewl site, GP. ;)

I haven't watched any of those anime, but last week after our last comp class I went to the student union with some of the seniors for the "all you can drink" coffee special. (Oh, crap...let's hope Teg doesn't read that!)

During the course of the conversation, it came out that two of the girls and one of the guys are GitS fans. One of the girls told me I should check out Macross as well.

Seems the Multiverse is trying to tell me something. ;)

(It also came out that most of them were born in the Year of the Ox, like I was...something that I hadn't noticed or thought about before. And that we are therefore futa-mawari, two "turns" or "circuits", or 24 years, apart in age, which evidently delighted them to no end. Three years of stuff like that and hage ["baldy"] jokes...I'm REALLY going to miss this bunch. ;) )

Well, it's surprising to find a fan or two.

*waves at fellow Macross fans*

Macross isn't exactly a deep and meaningful franchise like Dune, but it is an incredibly entertaining anime that is more sophisticated than one would expect. For a good taste of Macross without spending a lot of time or money I'd recommend watching Macross Plus (either the movie edition or the 4-part series). It's brief enough that it won't kill you to watch just once, it's aimed at an adult audience, it's available on DVD and it's a self-contained side story to the larger Macross world (no pre-existing knowledge of the any Macross is required). Naturally, you will watch it subtitled and ignore the dub, like any person of good taste should :)

Of course, if you're in the mood for a bit more, Macross Frontier is starting in April. The special pre-release of the first episode (shown since December last year) is already available in english fan subtitles on the net, so you could get into Macross that way

Wow! Two Macross fans, other than myself, on the same board. Maybe there's something to this; a connection between Macross and Dune (other than the obvious connection of incredible good taste)? Perhaps, someone should do a study :)

So now comes the part where we embarrass ourselves my dear Robiere; did you get the Animeigo set during the initial release that cost a kidney? Or did you purchase the set afterward when it became available at retail?

*winces*

I was one of the pre-order fans. It remains the most embarrassingly expensive over-priced product I have ever purchased :)
