In the DE he's Ibrahim Vaugh Holtzman.

Tio is from their books. It did seem a bit Herbertarian to me, and it did pop up in HA, back when they still had a few unused notes... could be a good 'un.

Holtzman is in the originals, he is credited with the physics that allows shields, suspensors, foldspace engines etc. I think it is once called a unifying theory i.e. a theory explaining the four fundamental forces as one.

Yeah, but his first name is never mentioned - also FH never pins down what his name actually was (iirc he spells it Holtzmann, Holzman etc).

The fact that Keith and BoBo jumped straight in in HA with the name 'Tio' makes me think it was in the notes and FH's flubbing the name was intentional (myth and passage of time etc). In other words: the hacks had original notes right in front of them and still missed the point. :)
