Fun at the bookstore

Post by TheDukester »

So I just got back from my local B&N, where I saw this under "Herbert":

Image

And — whoops! — it looks like I might have mis-filed some stuff or something. This is how it looked when I left. I guess something must have happened ... I must be really bad at re-shelving stuff. Sorry about that, Keith.

 Nice work.

I was thinking of printing out a huge stack of cards to stick inside the covers of the new books, nothing too offensive, just recommending that people start with DUNE.

Yeah, all five of me.

:D

Nice Internet Prove™, Dukester! ("Pix or it didn't happen!") :banana-ninja:

Oh. But since you didn't also provide one of the store exterior, indicating location and that it REALLY WAS A STORE, the Talifan Population PooPooers® ("There are only five!") will claim I set up the shot in the uni library. (We have some wooden shelves and the ceiling design IS fairly close. :? )

Oh well, better luck next time. :(

:D

I'd kinda like to get "Mc" stickers, to put front of the massive words of Dune on Mcdune books, with maybe another one for underneath saying "mmmm mmm mmm mm it's hack time!"

What's funny is that even my iPhone — which is about the most crap-tastic picture-taking device known to man — is helpful enough to record all kinds of information every time the shutter closes:

(That's actually dead-on, too ... that little pin is right where the store is ... spooky)

+++++

Memo to Kevin: on your next "15-mile hike" (uh-huh; whatever), take one shot before setting out. Take another upon finishing. Post images of the tags for both. In theory, the little pins will be about 15 miles apart and the time-stamp will reflect however long it takes for a pudgy blowhard to travel that far. It's easy; I just did it when I covered up your books ... uh, wait ... I mean when some local punks covered up your books and I just happened to be there taking pictures. Yeah, that's it.

My apologies for doubting you and your iPhone.

He probably doesn't have one of those yet. Or that will be his excuse. ;)

Now check if there's a (giant) pin through the roof of the store, then it'll be creepy!

I would have just accidentally filed them in Young Adult and not under Herbert behind some other author's Endcap if I was going to be a bookstore terrorist at the 91st and Metcalf Border's in Overland Park KS this afternoon.
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

I think they should be filed under A for Anderson. Shouldn't dual authors be listed alphabetically?

being familiar with bookstores, I can tell you the picture was taken in a Barnes & Nobles. Since Brian Herbert's name comes first on the books it will still be under Herbert, but as you can see in the first picture the books were shelved incorrectly, having KJA's books in between Frank's. At our store I make sure the Bh/KJA books are shelved first, followed by Franks series.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to have a 'Staff DOES NOT Recommend' display.

Yes, if ... if you were going to do that this afternoon.

Great work Dukester (and cool iPhone trick; must remember that one).

You may have just inspired me.

Edted to add: hey, what did you use to look at the GPS info from the photo?

Excellent work :)

My local shop doesn't usually have enough FH books to do that :(

(I guess that means they sell better than nu dune :P )

iPhoto. And then I just took a screenshot and cropped it to fit on a messageboard.

I think it's a misprint - it should be sligsack. A back pack made from a slig's scrotum.

Getting over some jet-lag. No ill effects, but it makes me extremely intolerant of KJA blurbs. :)
