help. phone dialing to the USA

I haven't been able to make a phone call, here in Mexico the international Code is : 00, the code for the USA is 1 and the phone I want to phone to is a:
877-466-2889 ( it's a customer service number, I guess it is in NY) What am I doing wrong? BTW I'm following the instructions given in my yellow pages book. thanks!

It's been a long time since I made an international call from outside the USA, have you tried leaving off the 00?

Maybe you should try a Mexican international operator. I'm sure they would have a clue, and all you have to do is pick up the phone and ask.

That's what you're doing, so ????! Try Omph's suggestion or call someone at the local office of your phone company.

The issue here is likely to down to the fact that you trying to connect to a toll-free number (non-geographic), try and find a standard land line number. Their website may offer such a number for international callers, assuming they have a clue what their doing.

I discovered a few years back that you can actually call toll-free 800 numbers from outside the States, they just aren't treated as toll-free. (I'd always assumed you couldn't access them.)
