I'm a pretty big fan of the two SciFi efforts, but I would agree that some of the casting decisions were curious.

Another problem, at least to many American ears: thick accents. To this day, I'm still not quite sure of anything the first Duncan says.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mhP50BlHH2I

(You can see why the movie execs didn't like it though :P)
Youtube says this video is not available in my country. WTF does THAT mean!? Damn I really wanna see it!
 Eh? Hmmm... you want to stop living in the wrong country. :P

Luckily Youtube vids are dead easy to rip :)

(edit: fix'd / edit2: and more better)
How do I open that file?! All I get when I click the link is crazy letters and character html stuff! Sorry to be a pain in the ass - but I'm VERY interested to see the scene!

 This is turning into a bit of an epic - Save link as and download a freeware FLV player (I using one called Riva flv player atm, but others might be better). Sorry, would have upped and avi, but it were HUGE. :P

Hm...seeing as how the Comedian in the upcoming Watchmen movie seems to have been fairly well cast...I think a lot of otherwise "unknowns" might come from TV, namely girly shows you don't watch but the women in your life do.

For example, Feyd's supposed to be the kind of pretty boy that can probably be plucked from a teen drama.

Great, I finally saw the 'Wives' deleted scene. Why the hell WOULD they replace that with the fuckin' rainstorm!? :x

It ends very strangely, so I could see not using it as the FINAL scene, but it sure as hell should have been in there. How in the world would they have set up for Dune Messiah without explaining the whole Irulan and Paul marriage thing?

Blatantly - my big idea (I think I already posted it somewhere actually) was to flash forward to Irulan at her writing desk, and a big an epic montage the Jihad gearing up outside on the landing-fields of Arrakeen. Really show off the fact that Paul has completely turned the universe upside down. It would look cool and pimp the sequel... which is about as good as this film could hope to be at this point :P

(And KJA loves Irulan writing shit)

Actually, I very much like this idea. I think if we need to include Irulan bookends, then we should make it contextual: Irulan writing with the Jihad raging on, reflecting on how she got there. It'd be nice if they could do what Peter Jackson did - hell, what even the Chronicles of Narnia movie was able to do, at times - and, where changes or development are necessary, have those changes come organically from the universe, extrapolated from the text.

Jolie better not be Jessica... That would be gross. And I could see Laurie as Hawat, or even Piter, but not the Duke. And NPH as Feyd? Maybe back when he was a kid...

YES! Maybe Gurney or even Shaddam?

But what about this for a dream cast? I've IMDB'd the more obscure choices. The reason the young actors are so obscure is because there is such a limited pool of young stars to choose from out there.

Paul Atreides - Marc-André Grondin
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0343082/

The Lady Jessica - Cate Blanchett

The Duke Leto - Alan Rickman

Gurney Halleck - John C. Reilly

Baron Vladimir Harkonnen - Brendan Gleeson

Stilgar - Daniel Day Lewis

Chani - Q'orianka Kilcher
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0452963/

Thufir Hawat - Michael Caine

Duncan Idaho - Gerard Butler

Wellington Yueh - Bill Nighy

R.M. Mohiam - Judi Dench

Count Fenring - Gary Oldman
