I've never seen this picture of him before now... thanks to Joseph-Vintimille T. Askaris on Facebook.

The combination of the high-and-tight flat-top, grizzly adams beard and birth control glasses make me want to drop to my knees and thank God he wasn't looking at me.

That is a cool look. Wonder how he ate soup with all that moustache hair?

I don't think I've seen him looking so young...

Now that I look again, I just bought a pair of glasses like that.

The worst food related time for my 'stache happened when it was new. I pushed a hamburger into my mouth not realising the right half of my moustache followed it in. I about pulled my face off when I bit down.

My guestimation would make him 45/46 assuming the award referred to in the photo was made in year following the publication of Dune.

Yeah, I'd say that's the youngest I've ever seen him in any pictures.

It seems like, over the years, the same two or three photos always accompanied any article by or about Frank Herbert, so I think many of us probably have the same mental picture of the man. It's interesting to discover these "other" photos.
