I know what you mean Omphalos, I actually prefer "the moment before death" generally for this sort of thing. I just didn't want to make this page into a blood bath type deal (I went more with the implication than volume splatter, this time  ). I get you on the eyes, and agree, probably would've worked better if he was more readable ( I was thinking more of the street lamp light source juuuust out of frame, got a little to obsessed with the shadows).

from Edit: Which btw is mainly how I prefer to roll. I've always favored deep shadowy images. For better or worse lol

DuneFishUK wrote:Ya know.. - I think he's right. All of them - especially gimp-mask-goggle-man, are pretty de-humanised. And the moment you've chosen to show kills a lot of the tension (again with special mention to goggle bloke) the scene could have had.

Still a lot to like though :)
De-humanising the grunts was definitly intentional. The way they are written it always feels like a bunch of goons and "the Lieutenant with a face", I was trying to visualize that interpretation. While it isn't shown in this image, I draw the grunts (w/goggles) with skull shaped mask (covered by a Fremen forearm in this instance). I know it's never really described exactly what type of protective helmets the Harkonnen wore, and that "skull shaped" was definitly never used. But my design of them takes into account the Harkonnen pention for using human fear to their advantage. I know "skulls" are more than cliche', but they do have documented use in warfare and effect on the human psyche (death's heads and what not), I was thinkling the Harkonnens could have an appriciation of that history.

I have a full sketch somewherez here...

well, hello there, lurker ....

:teasing-lurk:

when are you going to bring your ass out of your own little
self-serving cartoon thread and contribute to the rest of the board ?

what's your opinion on TheKeith's new Special WebForce, does paying
fanboys to post Amazon reviews wrinkle your dick or are you "cool" with it ?

what smells worse, my penis or Chigger's boogers ?

and so forth ....

Hey, my boogers stay firmly in my head.

Let that be a lesson to certain hack writers and strangling artists. :P

Hadn't thought to look. I think I know Simon's email address, so I'll check for that. Either way, the list's on the other machine, so it'll be later.

But is the "KJA Special Forces" really the kind of thing Simon would even be interested in joining? I would like to think not...

And, sorry, but I'm not going to publish the list. The user names are pretty useless without the email addresses and I won't put those out there for possible abuse.

The only person I've ever done that to is Hyppo, 'cause she's a right manky coont. :)

I've made peace with Simon's lowbrow, simple literary tastes,
it goes hand-in-hand with his lowbrow, cartoon art. He's never
demonstrated that he had any deep understanding of Frank's DUNE,
beyond the "kewl sci-fi action". I think he could read with equal enjoyment
DUNE & the DUNE84 marvel comic, and get the same thing out of both,
so if he likes TheKeith's simple-minded trash, I'm okay with that. I don't have
any respect for his intellect, so I'm not surprised.

what wrinkles my dick is that he only posts here now in this thread,
like some teenage MySpace whore, with no regard to the forum (or this group)
as a whole.

so, every time he shows up here to pimp his cartoons, I'm gonna call him an ass.

(and say, ass, your response was going to be "I was just asking Freak about that sketch" -
that's what the fucking PM system is for. Stroke your ego Over There. And I understand there's
no active members or traffic, but I'm sure Sietch Tabr would be interested. And you could post
all your Star Wars bullshit, too. And since your DUNE knowledge is not worth discussing, you
could take the time to comment on the many, many non-Dune topics, current events, & etc, or
come on into the Thou Art Villain thread & swap some blows .... )

To Sandrider:

The reason I keep it here is for all the reasons you've stated (the reasons, not the little barbs in between). I agree, I have a lot to learn. Best way to learn is to shut your yap and listen. So here I listen.

I've said my peice. I'm not going to sit here and waste space by repeating myself. You clearly got the message. What else can I say? It seems the majority of this board has spoken. I'm just listening. I myself feel like it would be more of an insult to wonder into other threads, de-railing topics with my "because I like 'em" arguement. I'm just not interested in the "drama" old dog, sorry.

"You have to understand, SandRider's under enormous pressure. You have to think of it in his situation. He's got this whole place to run, he's responsible for everything that goes on here, all these people -- he's got a lot of things to worry about. And he's got the war with KJA. Which brings out the worst in people. Never the good, always the bad. Always the bad. But in normal circumstances, he wouldn't be like this. He'd be all right. There would be just the good aspects of him. Which is a wonderful crook. A guy who loves good food, good wine, the ladies, making money...

And killing.

I'll admit it's a weakness. I don't think he enjoys it...

All right, he does enjoy it, so what? What do you expect me to do about it?

I don't think there's anything actually wrong with your
"I just like 'em" defense of TheKeith's DOON, except that you've never really
gone into any depth or explanation.

I like farm porn. I know it's wrong, and sick, and don't give a fuck.

and I'm not buying the "I'll keep quiet & listen & learn" bullshit.

I also sense that you've spent so much time up Merritt's ass, and with the
impending Death of The Other Guy, you're pre-postioning yourself for a spot
in future HLP dune comics. Which is well & good, bully for you, your comic book art
is no worse than TheKeith's comic book prose. But if this is the case, then you're
just a fucking self-serving Spammer, not an actual "member" of the "online Dune Community"
{OH or otherwise} .....

and as for "the drama", well, what else is there to do around here ?
