we've got to get this search-engine ranking thing under control -

search "Dune Forum" on google (in order):

forum.dunenovels.com/phpBB2/
forums.syfy.com/index.php?showtopic=1002066 (8 posts - 6 authors - Last post: Apr 2)
forum.dune2k.com
http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.amazon.com/Winds-Dune-Brian.../forum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/smf/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (dune buggy forum)
forums.sciflicks.com/showthread.php? (new Dune movie forum - 10 posts - 5 authors - Last post: Feb 12)
http://www.jacurutu.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.silverlakeforum.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (dune buggy)
http://www.atv-forum.com/.../669-2009-y ... -test.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

jacurutu's entry:

dunenovels' is horribly misleading, too ...

I kid you not, you couldn't make this up. :)
I don't understand why he's left that forum up since 99% of us were banned. He really might as well colapse that one (and the prequil lovers one) into the General Dune Discussion one.

Then again, I do enjoy that right on the official DN forum there is a blatant concession to that "tiny" group of people who hate KJABH. :twisted:

I'd seriously suggest Freak get the forum title back. Drop "The Cast Out" as a description, or put it in the site name box - replace it with something more descriptive.

Site Name: Jacurutu: The Cast Out
Site Description: A Forum dedicated to Frank Herbert's Dune stuff an' ting.

Or.... The Unofficial Dune Forum :)

It does look cooler without.. but the graphics alone aren't googlable, and not all the themes have custom Jacurutu graphics. .... Yet*

(*Anyone use a theme without a graphic? - I did ones for 610nm and the default one. It's no hassle to do one for the others :))

I can do that...

If anyone has any other suggestions for what should go there let's see 'em.

Just to follow up: yes, please do whatever to convince the Google spiders that the rank should be higher. It's an absolute joke to be ranked behind DumbassNovels, a site which gets, as we all know, almost zero traffic.

Also, for those of you wishing to debate preeks, increasing the Google visibility is the way to go. If the little McDune lovers aren't seeing Jacurutu, then they likely can't find it. Once they find it, those with a minimum of guts will be likely to join up to remind us all that, "Gosh darn it all! If you don't like them, don't read them!"

Dumbnovels has good sites linking to it - that's what does it: Every link we post to a stupid post over there improves their rank a tiny bit, and no matter how much Freak optimises here, Jacurutu will never out-rank the official site.

(A silly tool someone showed me at work: http://www.dnscoop.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; gives your domain name a theoretical $ value based on incoming links and traffic and stuff. Dumbnovels is supposedly worth $22,040, compared to Jacurutu's $1,590)

Apparently the Title tag is the most important, so "Jacurutu Dune Forum" might be a suitable Site Name...?

Egads. Let's stop doing this, then.

Not that they're saying anything over there, anyway, right ... :wink:

For now I've changed it to:

Jacurutu - The Cast Out
Dune Forum for Orthodox Herbertarians

I'm still open to suggestions. How long till the surch engines update the description?

is it possible to keep it that way for the SE but to have a template showing the old logo without the text?
It did look bloody cool!
If the added text is there just for the benefit of SEs, couldn't it be reduced to a less intrusive size?

Maybe, but even moreso if you know that show, and Good Times were spin-offs of Maude, which was a spin-off of All in the Family.

:wink:

"All in the family", is without a doubt the best American sit-com ever!
