Amazon Kick-back

Seriously.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for Brian Conway to justify
his book-store link.

But after thinking about for awhile - well, why the hell not ?
As much business as the amazon customers that post here do,
why not suck up 5% of that for the board ?

hell, Chigger alone could get us a real nice website & finance
Big-O's trips to the Archive, or sponser somebody to go heckle
The Hack @ a book-signing ....

just sayin' ....

Um ... sorry, but no. :)

Even if it were used for good purposes, money from Amazon got da taint. As in t'ain't of no innerest to me. ;)

I pay for my site completely on my own. I accept no money from anyone.

(To make this clear YET again: I have a CafePress "storefront" where people can buy T-shirts and some other odds-n-ends, but everything there is set at base price, meaning that people pay the CafePress price for items plus postage & handling. I receive no percentage on anything from that site. I have never received one red cent from it. And so far as I know at the moment, only two people besides myself have ever bought anything there, Eru—the T-shirt for the KJA signing stunt—and someone else, I forget who at the moment. I've bought T-shirts for myself, Teg & his wife & son and Mastah B & family [in grateful appreciation for something ;) ].)

And I don't want to. If the time ever comes when I cannot pay for my website on my own, I'll offload everything and shut it down, go back to blogging on Blogger, etc.

I had seen that Conway had a bookstore area on his website, but I didn't realize that he gets a percentage of sales. I don't really care, though. It's just another expression (symptom) of who he is: a person with suspect morals and little personal integrity.

I would prefer not to follow the lead of such a person in anything.

Um ... if that were the true, I think we both could have heard the screams. ;)

(Checked in over there after posting above. They only display transation, etc., records for the past three months. Zilch across the board, as I expected. :D )

Trust me, the last thing I want to see every third Friday night is SC's old avatar down there.

SR, I'm probably going to link to Amazon from the OBR one day for all the books I review - one of those little boxes with a link to the Amazon page at the bottom of each review. Nowhere near as much traffic there as here, but hell, maybe one day I'll get a check.

I have thought of doing it before, and I actually have not made up my mind yet, but I might. Ragabash hosts us for free (every site that I am associated with, actually - he's a swell brother like that!), and I go to the archive when I can swing trips that coincide with business, though my wife has a ton of friends down there so if we ever go for a week, Ill be making a lot of trips there.

I agree that they come off as dirty bastards. Which makes it more likely that one day Ill set it up. No sense in leaving good money with assholes, is it?

I don't have to justify it.

I am providing a portal to a reseller as an entrepreneurial effort.

Are you going to have an issue when the Google Ads go up as well?

You don't need to justify an entrepreneurial effort, but you do need to disclose it, especially if the books you are favorably reviewing are the same ones your own site links too.

Unless the Google ads link directly to sales of Winds of Dune then you don't need to mention those in your Winds' comments. Any time you review those items however, you should mention your Google relationship.

Again I don't dispute the legal right of the HLP to profit from the Dune IP. I have no doubt that Frank wished for his family to profit from the Dune legacy. My dispute is with the manner in which they are doing it, showing no respect to this great gift he left them.

Isn't this all a bit beyond his vestigial/stunted moral capacity?

oh, absolutely.

but to be helpful, cause I'm just in a good mood today,
I'll tell the Pest that the best thing to do would be to
say something like this in his reviews :

"and visit my blagh, http://www.IkissKJAss.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, where you
can order this and other pieces of shit from The Hack."

or something.

I don't know, that sounds like spam, too.
And amazon may have an issue with it.

moral dilemma.

better idea - dump the bookstore, quit trying to make money
off the stupid internet, get a real job, OR sell something
original .... like Chig's shirts & g-strings.

of course, your blagh logo is copyrighted by Games Workshop, so ....

try again ...
