Theme

I'd like your suggestions for a theme for Jacurutu.

If you have any cool images that might be manipulated into a Arrakis banner that would be helpfull too.

I was thinking of a banner all the way across the top of a desert mountain skyline. Day and night would be cool. Either a white sun in a silver sky with grey rocky mountains and yellow sand or a stary night with two moons.

A simpler would be Eyes of the Ibad. A graphic of the spice saturated eyes up in the left corner and a blue theme.

Im not sure I know what the hell Ty is talking about there, but those pics have too many clouds in them.

Just go with a still of Tatoonie. That should be just fine.

Whatever you go with, could you keep the banner down to a reasonal size?

That sucker on Arrakeen is 84 KB, for example, which is WAY too big IMO. (10 times the size of the current phpBB banner, for comparison.)

A cool theme (or skin) is nice and all, and should be distinctive, but above all it should be simple and fast to load. (Not everyone is on broadband, after all.) The board is about the content first, right?

Placing too much emphasis on form over substance is what killed another site, after all. ;)

Just my 2.1644 yen's worth.

Thats not what I meant, silly. Find a pic with no clouds. That would be more representative of Arrakis. At least early on, during the time when Jacururt was really alive.

I don't think I'm going to be able to be that picky. My wife's a wiz with photoshop.

This is the photo above edited quickly in MSpaint, Colour invert and a wee resize. It could be used to represent the polar ice caps of Dune, and the clouds would fit in as well. Another plus is it's only 35k.

I just need source material, I can maipulate the images. I was thinking of using that picture, getting rid of the clouds and putting dunes in the foreground.

There are a lot of interesting pictures of White Sands near where I live, including some nice black and whites that might be interesting. This one, for example, kind of looks like a worm has recently traveled by:

Bumping...

Freak, when you do settle on a new theme, please make sure it's lightweight and loads just as quickly as this default one.

I just popped over to Haven for the first time in a while. I really like the theme over there, think it's neat and all that, and really hate to be critical...but with all the image files used in the theme, it takes forever to load. :(

Just something to keep in mind....

Definitely, simpler is better. I like all the flashy stuff too, but it is a pain.. especially since I'm on dial up.

Ragabash is putting together a directory of lots and lots of themes so that Freak can cycle through them and decide what he likes. I imagine some will be busy, and some will be spartan.

Can't the forum software handle user-selectable message board themes?

There may be a mod for it. I havent looked yet, but I will. As it is, I do not believe the base package allows for it. One other thing we will be doing shortly is updating the forum software to the current version, which just recently came out. Perhaps it is in that one.
