For that you have to go to www.dunenovels.com

Hey there, I'm a Dune nut since the days of the David Lynch movie (it convinced me to read the books!) and I've hated the Brian and Kevin monstrosities since day one. I do confess I am sexually attracted to Erasmus, but I do so love abominations!

Anyway, I've glad there's this little sietch of Frank lovers in this day and age.

And, in looking over this thread, I mus add that GEoD was originally my least favorite book, but now it is second to the first for me.

Well, I am a sucker for a silky robes and stilted monologues! When I found out HE really painted the Van Gogh, I knew he was a keeper.

I should wrap my Face Dancers in tin foil and have them call me Gilbertus. Guess you should just ignore that last part....

Thanks for the welcomes!

Greetings and welcome! Sorry for the late reply.
dm1215 wrote:Brian Herbert's work, though, tends to lend itself to a much broader audience. I've spoken with a lot of readers who haven't been able to get past Dune and into Dune Messiah and beyond. I think that speaks a lot. While Brian's work has hit the bestseller list almost every time.
That has absolutely nothing to do with the writing being good or bad. As a
matter of fact, having mass appeal should immediately raise red warning
flags.

I too found it difficult to get through Dune the first time. But even then I
recognized that the struggle was a good thing.

Yeah, it speaks a lot about todays instant gratification, ADD generation.

I found it difficult to get through Dune the first time when I was 13 but I couldn't put it down.

I found it difficult to get through BH&KJAs books because I couldn't stay awake or interested.

I was a little older when I first read it (about 18 ), but that's what sucked me in as a geeky college student exposed to all these profound new ideas. I loved the thoughts on ecology, on Messianic religions, on politics and manipulation, on evolution, etc., etc. It was complex, but definitely worth it.

The BH and KJA books are schlocky, by-the-numbers SF for me, never mind the contradictions and other mess they create by inventing their own crap. I just hope later generations won't take their pre-digested Dune as canon.

Since this is is an active thread I'll start here.
Howdy to all the people I've missed saying to hello to over the last couple of months. Sorry about that.

To dm1215,
Welcome to the board.

When I was relatively new to Dune, I learned a lot from many of the folk that post here. I think you will find that they are some of the most knowledgeable people on Dune you will come across on the tubes.

As you wander around here, I think you will realize what a masterpeice Frank Herbert wrote, and what utter schlock the other two have written in comparison. Have fun!
