It's basically the same as Messiah as far as I know, so yeah, saviour.

Messiah/Christ literally means 'the anointed one', but I figure you probably already know that...

Since I'd never thought to check it before, I just searched my files for "Maud'Dib"; turned up 1 hit.
"You do not beg the sun for mercy."
—Maud'dib's Travail from The Stilgar Commentary
That's the epigraph for Ch.12 of Messiah. Not sure whether it's a scan error, artifact of my processings of the files, or a typo in the original book that was scanned.

Either way, corrected! :)

Yup, but doesn't hurt to point it out! I actually didn't know Christ meant that, always wondered what his whacky last name was all about.

I think that Messiah is ma.shi'ach in Hebrew, and Christ is Kristos in Greek, and they are both equivalent. Used to confuse me that we could call Jesus 'The Christ'.

I'd figured out that it was a title, obviously something spiritual, but that was about as far as I got!

The funny thing as I understand it that most people don't know about the Messiah, is that the Jews had several, and they were'nt really looking for a spiritual saviour at all - they wanted someone with a bloody army to come help, that's all.

Indeed, I think that the high priest was technically ma.shi'ach as well.
